Check out these Israeli Commandos!!

Interesting. Very interesting. Definitely not something designed for civilian use, which is my general interest when it comes to firearms. I would also be very intrerested to see exactly how many Israeli commandos, US Army Rangers, SEAL's, etc... are using a HANDGUN as their primary armament. Especially when in the types of situations that the video was showing. At the least, these guys are generally carrying a submachinegun, or a carbine version of an assault rifle (M-4 or AKM), not a handgun as their primary weapon.

I believe this teaches a VERY BAD LESSON to these soldiers. For those of you who are not tactically inclined, approaching a corner or doorway the way the video shows is a very bad idea. "Cornering", the art of actually rounding corners and doorways with a firearm is something that must be trained and practiced constantly. This toy tries to remove the need for that training. Unfortunately, I believe that many of the same problems that a person cornering incorrectly with a hand-held firearm experiences would still exist with this childs toy.

Additionally, I am very familiar with a guy named Murphy. He loves technological devices. Especially ones with lots of electronics, or that involve the user getting killed when the device malfunctions.

As I said... cute toy. You would NEVER see me use one.

I agree. It's pretty obvious when you see the guns come around the corner. Leaving them with seconds to either shoot or get fragged. If I seen them coming like that. I would take cover and toss a farg gernade as soon as possible. I think these guns could definetely help them but it also could backfire on them without the right experience.

This was actual covered in much greater length on the Discover channel. The device can actually be adapted to be used on an M4, and I imagine that it could be done with other weapons as well.

Oh and it was designed by an Israeli general who has spent his lifetime fighting. Don't take this personally guys, but I'm gonna go with him on this one.

I think I know Murphy also. He has probably had an opinion on every advance since the musket, or maybe even since the stick as a weapon. Anytime you introduce moving parts, you introduce Murphy as well.

But as one other poster says, I'll go with the guy that has been doing this his entire life, when it REALLY mattered.

yea, i could see one of these being deployed in squad. but they seem way too cumbersome and probably alot heavier then the standard MP5 that the US tactical teams seem to use. i sure as hell wouldn't wanna be the guy with one tho.

There are already numerous forms or corner looking devices out there that are much lighter, easier to use and probably much less expensive.

I wouldn't want to be the one with this thing OR an MP-5. I've shot the MP-5, and the first thing I noticed is that the #%^%%@#%$#^ gun jams more often than it fires. It's also one of the LEAST easy to clear firearms that I've ever dealt with in my life.

idunno seems like you'd be at a tactical advantage not having to peer around the corner to shoot...

You don't peer around the corner. In fact, you stay about as far away from the corner as humanly possible. You advance along the hallway wall OPPOSITE the corner you are approaching. As you move forward, you get a view of a slice of the hallway/room around the corner. By advancing slowly, and with your muzzle trained along the verticle line of the corner, you effectively clear large portions of the room as you approach the corner. By the time you've reached the corner you have a large part of the room/hallway already cleared, and as you come to the actual corner itself, you're as far back away from the corner as possible. Meaning that you still have space as an advantage if there is someone right around the corner.

Then there was something wrong with yours, because they are the staple of every military and paramilitary police force in the western world. I've shotone and didn't have a single jam after several hundred rounds.

I agree, and a random round damages your toy poking over a window and quickly wastes a bunch of money that could have been spent better and maybe traps your weapon in a less than ideal state.

And I didn't like the idea of trying to operate it's latch-unlatch mechanism during a fire-fight. Plus, focusing attention that little screen would reduce peripheral response ability. Still, I guess one would have to use it to confirm. I don't know how much better it would be than current snaked minicam video feeds of a room situation to a screen and receiving that tactical info on headset.

I'm sure they can be handy in certain situations, but I seriously doubt you would see a squad with more than one or two.

They are great for impressing the techno-weenies and Air Force guys though :D

J/K AFC

Every one of them that I've ever seen has had jamming issues. Even the ones that the cadets from Annapolis brought to the 2002 Joint Combat Weapons Competition in Springfield. They ended up doing the unthinkable... borrowing the UMP's that the West Point cadets had brought.

The MP-5 is actually being replaced in service by the Heckler & Koch UMP in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45ACP; and the M4 carbine version of the M-16 in many services.

Never heard of them jamming like that. I'd be quick to question exactly how they were taken care of.

Oh and "cadets" from Annapolis are called "midshipmen" :);)

From what I've read and seen, they are REALLY finicky. You have to have just the right ammo, be constantly cleaning the weapon, etc.... They're not an easy gun to maintain either, from what I've been told.

My bad. I just couldn't get over being called "Sir" all weekend (I was helping officiate the match) by the Combat Weapons teams of all four American military academies. Especially considering that I wasn't more than 5-6 years older than most of the cadets & midshipmen who were there.

Well, I know they are easy to maintain. It has few small parts, which is remarkable considering the fact that they were designed in Germany. Crazy Krauts and their ball bearings :silly: Finkicky? Well . . . their made in the country that came up with 9mm parabellum . . .

And the sir thing is a bit off. I've been called sir before on a couple occassions, and I'm their age

I'm convinced that there was some sort of user error involved. MP5s are still being made today (just came out with a new variation for the French military that is supposed to be able to handle +p and +p+ ammo. Not sure what the french are gonna use them for though. Something new to hang their white flags on? :D).

Leave it to a bunch of sailors to not know how to maintain a gun. There's a reason they have marines :D (says the kid who's joining at the end of Aug.) Honestly, if they're gonna switch to the UMP, I'd more than willingly take those MP5s off their hands at no cost. I may not be able to fix them, but I know someone who can :silly::D

"That video could do without the gay music in the back ground. It could use some Bond music"

you know what? last night at the gym listening to Dope, "Die mfer die!!' and godsmack I was thinking the exact same thing. I am going to write to them and tell them to change the music to something more head banging..

Yeah, it sounded like a bad 80's movie police chase scene. Pretty rough.
