Some posts:

"Can we all agree this is our Chris Cooley?

Like BP said Anthony Fasano is going to make Jason Witten and Terrell Owens a more dangerous weapon.... Does this means people going to put their attention on Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton, and Jason Witten and Not Anthony Fasano?"

"If he can block like Cooley, I'd be ecstatic. I think he has more speed than Cooley and will probably be a slightly better threat deep. That being said, Cooley did such a nice job blocking last year for the Skins that I think that's the one key component that nobody really talks about, but is so important."

"It not hard to think that he will be better then Cooley."

"Wow. Someone woke up with a ton of sunshine up his butt.

Cooley caught 71 balls last year. No way that Fasano can top that.

I think a good year for Fasano is going to be 30-35 grabs. Tops."

"Hope he doesn't fumble like Cooley.."

"All players fumble, so that isn't a strong point, I don't think Cooley fumbled a lot."

More:

"I hope Fasano does something Cooley has never done. Impress me!"

"i agree, but i think fasano has the talent to be a 70 catch TE. However, in this offense he is going to be probably the 4th option on every play so i wouldnt expect him to get much. Unlike cooley who was the 2nd receiving threat on Wash"

"Absolutely not. I think Fasano will actually be a solid blocker. Despite what people say, Cooley is a less-then-average blocker."

"cooley is not even a great TE IMO. fasano will b better then cooley. im a big notre dame fan and seen fasano play alot. he needs 2 work a lil on blockin thats all, other then that he should b ok with us.."

Exactly what about Cooley don't you like? The guy is a player and getting better and better. I'd be real curious to find out why you don't like the guy other than he's a Redskirt. He's a player for sure."

Even when he caught 3 TDs against you?"

Yet more...lol

"Chris Cooley is their Fasano."

They wish they knew that too."

"My point was that I'm not impressed with Cooley and I believe that if he would play in the Redskins offense, he would mostly likely have the same or better numbers and be a much better blocker. Cooley had the one game against us and now he's Kellen Winslow."

That impressed me about as much as the 3 victorys in 6 years has. Just messin. I guess there are just some players that you just dont like their style of play. I see weak blocking from him and arm tackles taking him down."

ARM TACKLES!! (this isn't from the board, this is my reaction...lol)...I have YET to see a simple arm tackle take down Cooley...the guy constantly requires two or three defenders to get him to the turf.

exactly, i remember a few plays from last year in which it seemed it took all 11 players (or close to) from opposing defenses to just take him down. (think regular season tampa bay, or the denver game, or watch the cooley vid)

and Chris Cooley = John Riggins playing H-back

Cont....

"Chris Cooley is a great player and I would be ecstatic if Fasano turned out to be nearly as good. Cooley was listed as a 4.74-4.89 forty guy leading up to the draft, yet he always finds a way to get open in the NFL. It emphasizes how having a natural feel for finding the soft spots in a zone and being a fluid athlete means so much more for a TE than raw speed."

"How bout Chris cooley is their Fasano. We are Cowboys, we dont copy anyone.

In this case, doesn't matter who came first. We dont copy nothing the skins do."

(The Redskins fan again)

"If you watch him play, you're right. His greatest strength is his route-running and moves to get open. The first TD catch he had against you all in the 2nd game, Ware had him blanketed, but then he made a sudden move just as the ball was arriving to clear some space."

"I think it is too early to compare Fasano to Cooley and it seems as if it is being done mostly because they wear the same number. They will not be used the same way though so let's not confuse them. Cooley is a major focus of the Redskins' offense, their 2nd or 3rd option while Fasano will be the 4th or 5th option for us after Glenn, Owens, Witten, and Jones.

Cooley is also an every-down player while Fasano will likely be taken out on 3rd & long and replaced with Crayton. That means that Cooley will probably have another 70-catch season while Fasano will be lucky to get 25 receptions this year. Different players and used in very different ways. They really don't compare well folks, except for the number on their jerseys."

Exactly, I'll take a Cooley on my team any day. Was a good find for the skins. Lets call a spade a spade. Cooleys number were also put up with very little talent at WR around him besides Moss."

Either you are overestimating Cooley's ability to block or underestimating Fasano's. I am not sure which."

cooley was my FFL TE last year in one of my leagues and the boy was money. i'd be thrilled if fasano could do the same."

I watched the Chris Cooley 2005 highlight video and now that I look at it, he was never brought down by one person. Everytime he went down he had already breakin a tackle, scored or got the 1st other than that 2 guys had to tackle him. I think that wrestling backround of his helps out a lot.

You want more??...Alright, then...

maybe he had one game YOU SAW but since i played him a lot in my TE league, the man has a lot more than a 'game' to his belt. i'm not sure why some fans feel the need to berate other team players as if it helps our own."

"I'm on board with quite a few others on this board. Cooley, whether a Redskin or not, is a damn solid player. He's not a world beater, by any means, but he compliments his offense well. He's the type of guy that kind of has the ability to go unnoticed at times by opposing defenses, and he makes them pay every time.

I hate the Skins as much as anyone, but I'm a football fan overall, and if you can't recognize a guys skills on the field because of the logo on his helmet, then you might want to re-check your talent evaluation skills. I'd take a Chris Cooley on my team anyday. Along with a Santana Moss or Shawn Springs, or Michael Strahan, or Brian Dawkins (although I would prefer to have Dawkins 4-5 years ago)."

"and people - this is a skins SCALPER talking! : )

cooley comes to play and we could use players like that on this team. *IF* fasano can emulate the success hell - welcome to team and maybe this will help compensate for the OL i've been so furious about the last few years.

i'll keep my wait and see, cause the skins also don't have a witten on the other side so that could alter how we use fasano or his success/attention on the field."

"I like Cooley's skills off the field more than on :)"

You mean you'd like to HAVE Cooley's skills off the field. :)"

This is an amazing accurate post by an amazingly observant cowboy fan. I'm speechless.

Chris Cooley is gonna be remembered as those tough, blue collared, tackle breaking, get the job done redskins that won one or two super bowls with us When its all said and done.

If I remember correctly, Cooley cought two 40+ yard bombs on crucial drives and has fought through injuries and has tacken some defensive players out of games. He'll only get better in Al Saunders offense. You can even use Cooley on screen passes. Chris Cooley is everything Tony Gonzales is except for speed and pro bowls.

P.S And please, don't give me that **** that I just read about people being able to take Chris Cooley down with one arm tackles or reguler tackles easily... Chris Cooley is gonna be one of the Redskins that break out this season with Carlos Rogers, Clinton Portis, and Sean Taylor.

To be completely honest, Cooley is not a very good blocker. He tries, but he just doesn't move people out of the way. He also isn't very athletic. He has an incredible nack for finding soft spots in zones and turning downhill after the catch. He usually does require a couple guys to hit him before he goes down, but that is largely because the 1st guy hitting him is a safety that gives up 40-50 lbs. He also had fumble problems last year. He only had 3 fumbles last year according to NFL.com, but it felt like he put the ball on the grass more often. I remember clearly seeing him stripped of the ball because he didn't tuck it and carried it like it was a laf of bread.

Despite all of those knocks, I think the girls are dreaming if they think Fasano is gonna be the next Cooley. Cooley led the NCAA in catches and yards by a TE his senior year. The main knock on him coming out of college was his size and blocking ability. And Cooley has steadily improved his blocking and shown that his size isn't a big concern.

Plus, I don't see how Fasano could ever hope to be the next Cooley. I don't care how much money you make, you have to have serious game to get the play Cooley does. Have you seen his girlfriend!?!?

And it goes on...

"Rich I normally agree with all your post 100% but from the Skins games I watched last year (pretty much all of them) Cooley was anything but a solid blocker.

Like someone said before he's more of a just 'get in the way' type of guy. He did a horrible job blocking out of the backfield for the run, and he did even a worse job picking up the blitz."

"Cooley is a product of the system. If Cooley was on, say, New England, I'd doubt he get much PT and would probably be considered to be a spare. Luckily for Cooley, he landed in a system that uses him as a H-Back in a manner to maximize what you can get out of him. Put Witten or Fasano in that prime--if not featured--role that Cooley is in, and they would put up similar numbers.

I can't judge Fasano v. Cooley because I don't know enough about Fasano. But I do know that Cooley was good in his system because of the system."

"H-Back is a different position than either the true full back or true tight end position. Dallas doesn't or at least hasn't really utilize the H-Back, so I wouldn't call Fasano Dallas' version of Cooley. The Redskins get the most out of Cooley's skill set. They would be wasting his talent if they lined him up out of a true tight end set on every play."

Gotta love the guy who said, "I hope he doesn't fumble like Cooley." HAHAHA! I guess they're still shell shocked from the 3 first half touchdowns he hung on them. By the way, I have a copy of the Ft. Worth Star Telegram article after that game. To say that the writer ripped them a new one is an understatement. They should be so lucky to find someone like Cooley.

I will give them credit though, they are extremely consistent fans. If they picked up an undrafted free agent running back from Southwest Missouri Technical Valley Community Trade School, they would be saying that he's #2 behind Tiki and just above Portis of top 10 NFC East runningbacks. He would be destined to be the next 2,000 yard back just like Julius Jones......hehe.
