SMOSS89
NFL Live crew was talking about if Jimmy Smith is a HOF but one of the analysts mentions that he wont get in if guys like Art Monk cant get in, and that its a shame Monk cant get in just because he was a quiet player who only did his job every sunday. Trey Wingo goes on to clal it the "great Art Monk mystery" and that its shocking that Monk, being one of the dominant receivers of his time, doesnt get in, despite having huge numbers on a team that ran the ball non stop. Ends with "makes ya wonder sometimes..." and im sure the first thought through many skins fans was "!$%@ing King"
NicholSkin
I saw it too. They even showed highlights so it was a prepared segment. I say he gets in this time.

Thinking Skins
I liked the comment he made that "Monk retired with just about every recieving record on a team in the 80's that RAN THE BALL. So he was like the 5th option." I know its just word play, but sometimes just hearing good things feels good.

Mr. S
that was pretty awesome to hear. For once they were not only defending Monk, but praising him. I hope this helps his cause for this year.

In any case, I've heard Trey say he's a Redskin fan, and Stink and Golic have teased him about it. I think he's from the DC area.
DCMONEY
I know Monk will eventually get in but I think the disrespect has already been done. They're some Hall of Famers that should be in on the 1st ballot. Monk fits that. :2cents:
GrimReefa
All the ESPN TV folks think Monk should be in. Salisbury, who isn't popular here for various reasons, thinks that his exclusion is "a crime".
Redskinsfan1967
I think it was two years ago that ESPN rated Art Monk number three of deserving pro atheletes not in thier respective Hall of Fames. The first two were Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe, so that makes Art the top football player not in a Hall of Fame. ART IN THE HALL !!!! :applause:

Ironic?
IBleedBurgundy&Gold1369225669
Damn I missed them saying that.I turned in on and there was about five minutes left.i figured they were just talking about the same stuff. It's good to hear anyways. Thanks for the info. He will get it sooner than later.

Ironic? I think Stink is pretty fair. The past few months he's said a lot of good things about Gibbs, our free agency, and has us rated as one of the favorites to go to the Super Bowl. CalSkinsFan
Maybe, just maybe, when these "borderline" WR's start to retire and come up for eligibilty more voters will begin to take a closer look at Monk and realize his accomplishments given the era he in which he played. It shouldn't need to come to this, but maybe it will finally put him over the top.

I think he's from the DC area. I've actually heard Trey say that he grew up a Cowboys fan. That being said, I've heard him defend Art Monk several times and repeatedly say that its ridiculous that Monk is not in the HOF. He strikes me as a Cowboys fan who has respect for the rivalry and for the 'skins as a team. And for those players, like Monk, who deserve to be in the HOF
TahoeSkin
I've actually heard Trey say that he grew up a Cowboys fan. That's odd. On the other hand, I grew up a HUGE Cowboy fan, and even used to wear No. 12 cause of Staubach. That's changed, of course, so maybe Trey switched over like I did! :applause:

DjTj
If Monk doesn't get in soon, it's going to start creating a major backup of receivers for the Hall of Fame. Andre Reed and Irving Fryar would probably have to get in before Smith. If Art doesn't get in within the next three years, Tim Brown is going to have trouble getting in. Here's how I would break it down: 2010 Jerry Rice: 1549rec 22,895yds 197tds (1985-2004) 2008 Cris Carter: 1101rec 13,899yds 130tds (1987-2002) (playing) Marvin Harrison: 927rec 12,331yds 110tds (1996-present) 2010 Tim Brown: 1094rec 14,934yds 100tds (1988-2004) (eligible) Michael Irvin: 750rec 11,904yds 65tds (1988-1999) (eligible) Art Monk: 940rec 12,721yds 68tds (1980-1995) (eligible) Andre Reed: 951rec 13,198yds 87tds (1985-2000) (eligible) Irving Fryar: 851rec 12,785yds 84tds (1984-2000) 2011 Jimmy Smith: 862rec 12,287yds 67tds (1992-2005) (eligible) Gary Clark: 699rec 10,856yds 65tds (1985-1995) 2009 Sterling Sharpe: 815rec 10,060yds 62tds (1990-2003) (eligible) Henry Ellard: 814rec 13,777yds 65tds (1983-1998) (playing) Keenan McCardell: 825rec 10,680yds 62tds (1992-present)

Jethrodsp
Most intelligent football fans are in agreement on this issue. It is a shame that there are the few on the voting board who keep Monk down whether it be because of personal bias or otherwise. Monk will get in, but it's long overdue. I think an ES flock to Canton may be in order when he does.
