PFW: NFC East the Toughest - 'Skins "Stocked"

Pro Football Weekly has a feature on the NFC East that's pretty fair. Nice words for the Redskins (with a fair shot at Brunell):

Washington Redskins

Draft pick who’ll contribute immediately: LB Rocky McIntosh will start from Day One if he can show good playing strength, stay healthy and learn Gregg Williams’ complex defense. Rookies don’t often play in this system. McIntosh is being billed as a three-down player whose coverage ability can allow Marcus Washington to blitz more.

Draft pick who’ll surprise: S Reed Doughty will be a fan favorite about two quarters into the team’s first preseason game. Chances are, Doughty, who’ll figure out his best chance to make the roster is less with his ability to play in the secondary and more with his special-teams coverage. Not to worry. The hard-nosed, exceptionally intelligent and game Doughty will fly around on punts and kickoffs and sacrifice his body like Mark Murphy used to do more than 25 years ago.

Veteran due to have a comeback: David Patten (remember him?) will provide more as a No. 4 receiver than he did as a No. 2. Weird, eh? Yes, Patten struggled before going down with a knee injury, providing little help for Santana Moss, but now that the Redskins can spread the field with Moss, new acquisitions Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El, not to mention H-back Chris Cooley, Patten should be a viable weapon in four-WR sets.

Position they must still address: They might bring in another punter, and perhaps be in the market for depth at offensive tackle, but the roster is pretty stocked right now.

That article was pointless. Didn't we sign some Australian punter to compete. He might of got cut already but I heard good things about him.Rocky might start come daay one but he better bulk up.The only thing that is dead on in the article is that Patten will be over looked and have a great year.I don't see Reed Doughty doing anything except special teams because he is slow. I'm sorry I'm having a bad mornig and everything I'm reading in hear seems like garbage.:D No hard feelings.:)

I like the article.

Doughty sounds like the exact kind of player we need as a backup safety/ST maven. He's apparently aggressive and physical on teams, but he also seems like he will get to know the nuances of GW's defense and play extremely fundamentally sound football if one of our starter's goes down, God forbid.

I agree about patten but if you did watch the games he was open in times and brunell never looked, if we had him at the end of the year if you would of loved him. If we could get a yard for every ball jacobs dropped or just couldn't catch SSSSUUUUUPPPPEEEERRRRRBBBBOOOOWWWLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!! the party would have been great

Okay, so this is cheap and catty, but ... it's really hard to take football commentary seriously from this face:

Man looks like he belongs in the Robotics Club in high school, not writing about the N-freaking-FL.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Good and insightful writting. Clearly this guy is able to look and see things with an understanding on how Gibbs works.

I hope not too many more people can see that clear. That way, when we're in the SB, the average non-redskin football fan will be wondering, " What happened?" "And how did the skins get to the SB?"

They will say we bought it and the hating will go on to a new level.

You haven't seen hating yet. Just wait until we win the Super Bowl!

Let the writers have their opinions...that's all they are, their opinions.

I would love to know what the other coaches are thinking, especially those that have to play us. I'm willing to bet they are all a bit worried about what Gibbs has done bringing in Saunders and the new receivers, especially the coaches in our division.

Has any reporter ever gone to each coach and asked him...which team in your division worries you most and why? I bet that would make a good newsworthy story. Then we wouldn't have to listen to all opinions of reporters who have bias towards their favorite team/s.

Anyone else find this absolutely hilarious AND true??

"Veteran due to have a comeback: SS Roy Williams had a very ordinary season last year, no two ways about it. He was below average in coverage and wasn’t the dynamic playmaker up front as he had been."
