HailYeah
Couldn't find this posted yet. Sports talk 980 is reporting that Lavar will switch to strong-side LB this year for the G-men. Interesting. He will be out of his natural position and will be blocked more and not get to the QB as much. He will be depended upon to make tackles all day long. Hope he doesn't miss any assignments, wait a second, yes I do. And I know he will.
Gilgamesh
Wow LaVar, so you're getting paid less money to play out of position and will be asked to do things, like stick to the play as it's called, that you did not like doing for Gregg Williams or Dale Lindsey. This Giants deal is looking better and better, of course he can make up for all of that with better endorsement opportunities. "Try the new Double Nickel Burger from McDowell's...5.5 lbs of ground beef that really sacks your appetite..." "Cut...LaVar...you're improvising the dialogue again, can we just perform the script as it was written for once please?"
Dirk Diggler
Dumb, dumb move. I'd play him at MLB before SLB. Arrington needs to be free to run to be effective. Oh well - can't say I'm unhappy about it.

Haha  . McDowell's....classic. Yeah, he's just gonna become another NY primodonna. I think he really wont have a big impact on that defense, which is what they need. Oldskool
This is a head scratcher if its true. His least natural position of the 3 in the Giants scheme is SLB. Oh well I wont cry too much when he gets blocked by the TE, run out of the play and gets frustrated.

DC_Skins
LaVar Arrington will start on the strong side next season. Arrington was a weak-side 'backer in Washington but respected DC Tim Lewis thinks he fits better as a strong-sider, Lawrence Taylor's old position. Carlos Emmons or Brandon Short will be the Jints WILL. Birdlives
Hmmm. I can't beleive they think he has the mental capacity to learn a new position. Then again with a new DC every year with the Skins, I guess they figure they should make him feel at home by making him learn yet another scheme. :gaintsuck
Walking Deadman
Interesting, will Lavar be able to shed blocks from a T and TE's like Whitten, Smith, Cooley, Sellers etc.? Plus, will Lavar be able to cover those guys with the weight he's put on????? Let's see how this develops......
Westbrook36
SAM's have the responsibility to cover the TE. He is going to be eaten alive.
Shaddow
Didn't he play stong side at least a year or 2 here? I remember everyone saying that under Williams he would finally get back to being in his natural position and not having to fend off extra blocks like he had been doing. 1028046
Wow you guys are silly Lavar played SAM for the redskins all three years he went to the pro bowl he plays better a the SAM and will be able to line up closer to the QB because of this

Arrington isnt the same player that went to the pro bowl with the Skins. Also if he is going to rush from the SSLB position, teams are going to start abusing that defense with TE's and H-backs. This should be interesting.

Seems to me their best bet is to hope that Gerris Wilkinson the rookie from GT can beat out the competition at that spot.

No matter who you think is better not one out of Shockey, Witten, Cooley, or LJ Smith would be able to handle Arrington one on one blocking. So that leaves Strahan and Osi to go one on one with the Tackles which spells trouble for Brunell/Campbell

The problem with Lavar here was never that he couldn't physically beat his man, it was that he wasn't disciplined enough to prevent plays like the one I just described. If everything goes as planned Pierce should slide over and release to the breaking TE because that means Portis is going to stay in and block. You can trust me when I say the Giants and the coaches all know how reckless Lavar plays and how many times he will blow his assingment. I honestly think he will be primarily a rushing LB and really have no duties at all other then to play smear the queer out there. Which is the only thing he really knows how to do. HOF44
One thing you will find is when Lavar rushes the passer if he doesn't come free he usually doesn't get to the QB. He is not good at getting of blocks.

Whitten has the size but not the athletic ability to take on Arrington, even now. Cooley is an under rated blocker and his experience against Arrington in practice as well as his collegiate wrestling pedigre give him a distinct advantage over him. Now Fauria is the mystery. He pass blocked mostly for the Pats but still did well enough in the run that he wasnt a liability. Basically it comes down to this; Arrington is a wild card. Definately feast or famine when it comes to rushing the passer. His strengths and weaknesses are well known throughout the league, espeically here where the coaches know him first hand. His weaknesses wil definately be exploited.

None of those guys can hold a stick to a Dan Campbell type blocking TE. Let me get something straight to I have read on this site now that The Skins have a better O-Line then the Giants The Skins have a better RB in Portis then the Giant's Tiki Barber The Skin's TE is a better blocker then the Giant's TE SO how does Tiki have more rushing yards then Portis every year he has played for the skins? I would say that Arrington has an advantage over anybody he goes up against because he is a physical freak and you can't deny that. The only disadvantage is in his head and how well he recovers from the knee injuries.
tr1
LaVar can't cover anyone any more. It'll become very obvious when we play the Giants.
