Peter King says something Skins related that isn't Negative?

I think I just fell out of my chair.

8. I think it's time for Joe Gibbs, who has always loved veterans, to start loving a second-year guy. He's got to give Jason Campbell a fair shot to unseat Mark Brunell this summer. Campbell has too much potential to sit for another year.

It wasn't overly postive. But my scans for the "negative" came up empty.... not to mention, I agree.

Brunell was great last year, until the 2nd Giants game and his knee got nailed. I think its time to realize you can't just put him back in there if he gets hurt again. you need to be sure he's at least 90%.

I say Campbell should start against New England and Baltimore in preseason. If he's able to move the ball well against their first team, I think he should be given the nod opening day.

Let Brunell start the other 2 preseason games (against more porous defenses).

Only if Campbell clearly outperforms Brunell in these circumstances and through training camp, he deserves to start against the Vikings IMO. I'd much prefer a fresh Brunell coming to lead us into the playoffs off the bench then Campbell...so if we can legimitately start Campbell early in the season I don't see why not. I think towards the end of the season, losing Campbell and having Brunell come in reserve would be alot better then losing Brunell and having to rely on Campbell for the crucial stretch.

If Brunell does start which I'm 99% sure, I'd be tempted to sit/rest him when we play teams like the Texans and Titans...teams we should be able to beat anyways. We need him healthy and fresh for the playoffs/big games.

So, you're saying for us to bench Brunell in favor of Campbell if he get's the starting nod. Risk our future getting injured and then bring in Brunell come play-off time. Nahhh..... I think that we should still bring Campbell along very gradually not against the first team, but against the second team to how much his development has progressed. I believe that it will probably be determined during the final pre-season game as to who the starter for the season will be. I am sticking with Brunell barring any injury because he gives us the best chance to win.

If I am impressed with what I see in the pre-season with Campbell, then we can make a legitimate argument as to who should start. But, overall, if the coaches make the decision for Brunell to be benched, then it will be by performance-based.

Question 84: Gibbs is a man of his word. Gibbs said Brunell will start the season. Therefore, ________________.

(A) Jason Campbell will be given a shot during pre-season to start the season.

(B) LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar, LaVar!

© Brunell will start the season, although Campbell's performance during pre-season might lead to an increased chance of regular season playing time.

(D) Brunell will start and finish the season regardless of how he plays.

(E) None of the above. Please explain.

The opening argument about Reggie Bush wearing #5, shows just how little King knows about football, and it's history.

1. (Oh, you mean like Keyshawn Johnson, a wide receiver, wearing the decidedly non-wide-receiver number 19?)

 First Keyshawn wore #3 in college not #19, he was assigned #19 because all the 80 numbers were taken, and it was already allowed in the NFL rules that a WR could wear a teens number if all the 80's were taken.

2. Everyone knows Bush as Number 5.

SOOOOOO? Peyton Manning wore #16 at UT, even had it retired, yet he sales a heck of a lot of #18 Colt jerseys doesn't he??? Brady wore #10 at Michigan. This is just plain stupid on his part

3. Paul Hornung wore 5.

I love this one. Horning was drafted out of ND he was a "quarterback" DUH.. he was converted into a rb later by the Packers,

4. Merchandising, people. Last year, the sales of Randy Moss and Terrell Owens jerseys earned those players more than $1 million each

Didn't Moss wear #84... before wearing a new number (#18) last season for Oakland? You just defeated your own previous argument #2.

5. Helping Katrina victims

Yeah using the suffering of others to get your own way with a token bribe errr gift. Petey this is the league that wouldn't allow Manning to wear black High Tops in memory of Johnny U, or let Jake Plummer wear the #40 sticker all season in honor of his friend Pat Tillman. Geez get a clue.

It is just a self-serving statement by King since he touted Campbell as the best QB in the draft last year. Of course, he then ripped us for trading up to get him while stating that SF had a good draft because they got Alex Smith with the #1 overall pick.

I'm just saying I'd like to see how Campbell fares against the first team defense of the Patriots and Ravens in the preseason. If he looks good, then I think he should be considered for the starting job. I hope that we don't see Campbell merely against 2nd string defenses, because that isn't a good gauge as to how he'd survive if he needed to come in midseason.

I think Brunell should get the benefit of the doubt if its close. But if we see Campbell with amazing accuracy and a canon arm in the preseason, against the two formidable defenses of the Patriots and Ravens.

I REPEAT: MARK BRUNELL IS THE ONLY QB ON THE ROSTER WHO CAN TAKE THIS TEAM TO THE SB THIS YEAR.

I generally agree with you, but not for the usual reasons. Everyone likes to talk about how Joe prefers veteran QBs (and veterans in general). I also think that Joe and Al are going to make the offense more complicated -- if only to better utilize all those weapons -- than it was last year. That also favors a veteran QB. What everyone misses is that Joe prefers them because they make fewer mistakes than younger players, not just because they're experienced.

Jason Campbell has had a year of tutoring from Joe Gibbs and crew. He will make mistakes -- all young QBs do -- but he's been hearing from Joe all about how to avoid mistakes. I'd argue that he should be better prepared to step in and play in this offense than most veterans out there. I don't know if he's got what it takes to be an NFL QB, but I don't know that another year on the bench will instill that. You only figure that out when he plays on Sundays.

We know Brunell won't last much longer. He's smart and experienced, but he's got a lot of miles on him. He gets gimpier with every hit. I think this coaching staff is quietly preparing Jason Campbell to start this year. I doubt it will be against the Vikings, but I don't think this coaching staff is pinning their Superbowl hopes solely on Mark Brunell. That's a big gamble, in my opinion.

No way we sit him for an entire game. Let him come in and do his job and, if we do run out to an early lead, feed the ball to Betts and Rock and keep our starters fresh.

Until Peter King drops his senseless, unprofessional vendetta against Art Monk's rightful HOF induction, I've got nothing but disgust for him.

He is a fat blubbering idiot in my opinion and "he can eat crow when we win the bowl"

I think what is being missed here is that King is saying that there should be a competition for the starting job this year instead of handing the starting job to Brunell.

My thought is that Al Saunders will make the call on who to play. He has seen alot of QB's during the yrs and knows when one is ready. He has no prior relationship to Brunell so if he feels that Campbell is the best QB then he will start and if he doesn't then Brunell will start. He is getting 2 million a season to not just make the call but make the right call.

Well, of course he's preparing Campbell to start. A #2 QB has to be ready to come in at a moment's notice. That isn't saying that Gibbs is planning on replacing Brunell at some point in the season. I take his word that Brunell will be his starter, and that Campbell is competeing for the #2 slot. You just don't take away the job from your starter who got you to the playoffs in the previous year.

BTW, I replaced a few names:

8. I think it's time for Marty Shottenheimer, who has always loved veterans, to start loving a second-year guy. He's got to give Phillip Rivers a fair shot to unseat Drew Brees this summer. Rivers has too much potential to sit for another year.

Now, would you have seen anyone make that argument last year? Granted, Brees is much younger, but he wasn't going to be the future there anyways, after picking Rivers.

Jason

Brunell has earned the right to start after the season he had last year. Gibbs has said so much. Regardless of anything not health related, Brunell will start the year.

If Campbell looks like Brunell did last pre-season and Brunell looks like Ramsey did last pre-season, then you shouldn't be surprised by a quick hook (although it will be slower than the Ramsey hook).
