skinfan2k
I propose that question.. I really think that the redskins need some backup to make some key contributions in order for the team to reach the superbowl.. i will rank them according to stars ***** Ladell Betts- running game must work when portis takes break and needs to stay fresh for the playoffs, betts needs to work on getting more yards from the line of scrimmage **** Kenny Wright or Ade Jimoh- these cbs must hold up their bargain and not allow slot recievers to run over them. *** Renaldo Wynn- must continue to be a leader in the lockeroom, and able to get pressure on the qb in a limited role. ** Jason Campbell or Todd Collins- these guys must step up immediateley if Brunell gets injuired * David Patten and James Thrash- if these guys can be remain effective along with the big 3, this offense will take off and could be one of the elites in the NFL. Who do you guys think will be key contributors off the bench this year?
KirkNC
Betts will be traded in August to a team that loses it's runner for a third rounder in '07. Rock and Lumsden are the future secondary back-ups to Portis.

I think Rock is a great back and lamsden is alright.. But i do believe in the near future we may have to draft a backup rb

AllAboutSkins08
our backup QBs for sure are necessary for us to even look threatening, and our backup O-line. on top of that, our backup CBs need to step up (springs is old).

Blade
There's always the, "If people came from apes then why are there still apes?" or whatever the argument is.Why couldn't we evolve from the first ape that actually could think; a completely different species then a regular monkey. I'm no biologist, but I'm guessing that fossil remains in chronilogical order of an ape-like creature up towards the neanderthals and cro-magnum links to evolution. Otherwise then every single species is completely independent of eachother? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Maybe someone can explain the genetic mutations within a species for me. We were down two starters on the OL during the Playoff game in Seattle. That effectively ended our playoff run. Our OLine *and* DLine backups have to get the job done this year if we want a chance to make it to the NFCCG. I am far less worried about our secondary if we can get good pressure with our front 7. Also, we will need a WR to step up and take some pressure off Moss.
Thirtyfive2seven
I think that Patten is going to have a really good season. He's an accomplished Vetern player with Rings. He's not going to lay down or sleep on the competition for his starting job. I expect him to have a good season (if Brunell looks his way). But the key is the O-line and D-line: I agree Blade
jschlesi
Campbell-- Brunell is terrible when he gets banged up ( especially with his knees) Rocky has to perform.
Loyal2Washington
Any backup that takes the field needs to have minimal drop off in quality of play for us to be a contender. Welcome to the NFL, teams with solid depth go further then teams with 22 star players and no backups. :dallasuck :gaintsuck :eaglesuck

skinsn24
I strongly beleive Wright will have to play very well and start 2-4 games. I also think yes betts will have to play well and not fumble. Jason Cambell will also see time and start 2 games IMO

MRMADD
I think it's most important that we get strong play out of the players that backup players who are going to get injured this year. It's that simple. Anyone got a time machine handy? Go tell us which starters will get injured. This is why depth -- across the board -- is so important. The Skins were very lucky, injury-wise, last year. It showed in the playoffs -- lose a lineman, get Portis banged up, and suddenly the Skins are stuck in the mud. The current roster has some equally glaring depth problems: no depth on the OL. Very little in the defensive backfield. The DL has some issues too. LB is a concern. This team is very talented, but paper thin. Lose Washington or Portis or Springs or Taylor and it's like going off a cliff. The NFL is like that everywhere, but most teams have one or two serviceable, experienced backup linemen, for example. They're not starting caliber in most cases, but they are serviceable. The Skins really have none. Unfortunately, rookie free agents don't make great backups for critical positions, because they just don't have the experience necessary to step in when it matters. Let's hope for another injury-free year.
michael_33
It's all really just too simple! Depth or not,we need Brunell to have at least the season he had last year to be successful...Or Jason Campbell or whoever is throwing the darn ball.... With the upgrades we made at WR,TE,DE(DL),S,CB and so on....If our QB position sucks, then so will we.... I know...I know...The 200 ravens didn't have great QB play and they won the superbowl...YES...that's true! But their defense was so awesome it didn't matter...And You and I know our defense isn't that good.... I do think we will be even better than when we had arrington (in his good years)I think we will be able to score on defense like ST fumble returns and such....Our pass rush will be significantly better than in the last 5 years or more... But our division (as stated every day) is going to be very tough...even to win 10 games If we can get GOOD play from our QB position,it won't matter what our depth is...we will be in the playoffs... Now...Like your thread states..."to make a run"...If you are saying a run to the SUPERBOWL...Then yes...depth will play an important piece and needs to be adaquate...If it isn't Terrible then we will be OK.... But even then it all goes back to the QB...!If our backups are studs and mark Brunell goes down and Campbell steps in or Collins or whoever and they start to suck, then we are doomed..! So I guess Depth at QB has got to be the most important depth we gotta have,to make a run... And quite frankly...I'm not so sold on our Starter, let alone our backups! 3DaysLatr
Wynn and whoever ends up backing up the DT's are very important so that the line can rotate and stay fresh. The play of Wright, Jimoh and Prioleau is important also in the nickle and dime packages. Offensively, I'm concerned about not having a proven back-up on the line that can fill in, but you can't have everything and Bugel is a phenomenal line guy so here we go....... PresidentClinton07
**** Kenny Wright or Ade Jimoh- these cbs must hold up their bargain and not allow slot recievers to run over them. rvan1
the only person which will have to play well (or at least meet expectations) in order for us to make the playoffs is whoever starts at quarterback. all of the other pieces are in place
smalex41
What about Carlos Rogers, Nehmiah Brouton and Ade Jimoh?. Isn't it time now for them to show their worth. The Skins have invested a lot of money on these dudes and now is the time for them to demonstrate their value !!!
