thespaniard
....just in case anyone cares SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- The San Francisco 49ers acquired a proven backup quarterback for Alex Smith, getting Trent Dilfer from the Cleveland Browns on Thursday in a trade for quarterback Ken Dorsey and an undisclosed 2007 draft pick. Dilfer, who won a Super Bowl with Baltimore in 2001, will give the 49ers depth behind Smith, who struggled as a rookie last season after being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/05/04/bc.fbn.browns.49erstrad.ap/index.html Decent trade for the 9ers..they got an experienced vet in case smith continues to struggle. Crennel must love Charlie Frye, because now they have no other QB on that team who has been in the league more than 3 years...

Goaldeje
Dilfer is a top notch backup... good move by the 49ers Yeah, that's what i thought when I heard this on the radio. Good move, gives them some experience to help Smith's development.
Drex
Good move from SanFrancisco from the standpoint that it provides the team with some veteran leadership at the qb position. In terms of Cleveland, its pretty clear that its Charlie Frye's show. Dorsey is serviceable, but is nothing more than a backup type.

diesel22
Yea......uh, let's bring in ken Dorsey to help mentor Frye. Now there's a good move. I honestly feel so bad for Browns fans. They have one of the most moronic front offices in the history of sports. They have consistently drafted at the top of the 1st round since they came back in '99. Still waiting for one of these picks to do anything by the way. Now, they send a very valuable, experienced, championship QB packing in exchange for    .....hold on:laugh:   Ken Dorsey? Yup -- Romeo is really turning that ship around in Cleveland
skinz4evr
Yeah, great job Romeo.. I'll believe it when I see it. All those "experts" had the Browns at the TOP of their list for FA moves, and burned us, but we'll see if the weak pickups the Browns made really help more than our big ones. I guess they got a center, but doesn't the rest of their team SUCK? And Dilfer looked very serviceable and smart even though his numbers were pretty weak, he wasn't losing games for them. Great pickup 49ERS. TD may start if Smith doesn't step up.
thespaniard
Crennel is a defense guy. You have to wonder how much he knows about grooming quarterbacks and building that teams offense...
