Brian Mitchell

Caught a few seconds of the new Brian Mitchell show and just wondered what is your image of him? Do you remember him for his Redskins' heroics and how he fought tooth and nail for us? Do you remember him being an all heart guy on some pretty forgettable Norv teams? Or is he the guy who kept blasting and insulting the 'skins as an Eagle? Is he a traitor? :eaglesuck :gaintsuck A Redskin  or is he irrelevent :(

Mitchell was always one of my favorites. When he left the team things here were pretty turbulent, and we lost several really good guys that way (Bailey, D. Gardner, etc.). Anyway, my lasting impression of Mitchell is the fake punt he handled in the 1991-1992 playoff game against Minnesota, where he took the snap and almost ran for the TD.

What people don't realize is that he is 2nd All Time in total yards gained...rushing, receiving, putn return and kick off returns behind ONLY Jerry Rice. Part of that is due to the horrible Redskin teams of the 90's in which he'd get a ton of kick off returns.

But the guy was a beast and IMO the best return man off All Time if you count kick and punt returns. There have been some great punt returners, but they don't usually make great kick returners due to the beating you take in the high collissions.

I think at some point Brian Mitchell will be in the Hall Of Fame as a return man.

BRIAN MITCHELL is TRUE B&G. He spoke nothing but the truth always. He balled as a player and EXPOSED Danny's inherant weakness as a GM(why he was traded) and how NORV just sucked. B.MITCH IS A STUD!!

I agree that Mitchell is HOF material. but they haven't had a special teams player inducted yet (which is mostly what he is). Steve Tasker is getting some attention now, but i could see Mitchell getting in.

My lasting memory of him is when he came in to QB in the body bag game versus Philly.

I could never think of Mitchell as a traitor. He played his guts out for the Redskins and IMHO was the best return man ever in the league.

However, I have always had a problem with the way that he used to ***** & moan and jump in someones face after every return. You could almost set your watch by one of B.Mitchells' rants.

I also didn't like the way he questioned CPs' heart after a game last season. Portis came on the show the following week and straightened him out, but Mitchell continuously makes similar comments about Redskins players and also says that "they need to show him something next week." I'm sorry, but who does he think he is? If you ask me, he has got a bad case of short mans discease.

I will always remember that game. How funny was it to see this big dude wearing #30 play QB and run option type plays!! LOL

I will always remember him for his last punt return for a touchdown as a Redskin when he stiff armed Gramatica to the turf. He gave that chump the RAG DOLL treatment. I loved it.

How about when he returned a punt or kickoff for a touchdown in the opening game against Detriot back in 91 I think. It was the game we won 45-0 Beautiful. Bring back Captiol Punishment. it's such a good name for our defense.

I loved watching B.Mitch's punt and kick off returns. He would just make one cut and head up the field, weaving through block and running over people. Mitchell was also great on special teams coverage and known for getting in the face of players that always had a little extra to say after the play was over. B.Mitch is the man.

I have always liked B-Mitch he was one of my favorite redskins. He had a little beef towards Snyder. I think it had more to do with Snyder than the organization but he seem to have that all cleared up and retired as a Redskin which was only fitting. I can't see him as a traitor he wanted to be here but under circumstances he left and he didn't leave on the best of terms . But now, it's all water under the bridge.

Mitchell stuck with us through many terrible seasons and always gave his all out on the field. Sure he probably talked a little too much trash on the field, but that might have just been because he was passionate about the game. Overall he's a true Redskins and I think we all can forgive him for those few years with the Iggles and Giants.

for my 100th post... I loved BM. He was guts, hard work and team first. He never complained about the losing. never had anything bad to say about anyone except the other team.

As far as him saying things against us when he was in philly, you just have to chalk that up to being on a different team and having to say those things against your opponents, even if they are the best team GOD has ever assembled call the Washington Redskins

Hail

BM, Art MOnk, Joe Jacoby and russ grimm for the HOF

It was difficult seeing him in them Giants and Eagles uniform that's for sure.

You had a problem with his trash talking?!? I loved him for that because even on a punt return when he might get 5 yards or even on ST coverage he was jawing at whoever was around him NOT in B & G.

True Skin it was just unfortunate that Snyder let him go with still a little left in the tank.

I've heard a little bit of his show for the last two days. I like it, he seems pretty knowledgeable. Weinstein is a good partner for him. I liked their discussion today about MLB, Peter Angelos, and their unethical control over the Nationals TV rights.

Honestly, I like the new line-up change overall.

I have to admit, I did like it at first, but then it just got old after a few years and he just seemed like a frustrated little kid at times. I just remember games where he would be in a players face after a return and the player would sometimes just be standing there looking confused, as if to say "what the hell is this guy jumping up in my face for, all I did was tackle him?"

The whole image brings a smile to my face so I guess it's not a bad thing. But his attitude towards current Redskins players that he seems to have nowadays and his exaggerated idea of his importance in the broad scope of things (where the Redskins are concerned) is puzzling.

Mitchell is a passionate guy. He's always been that way, no matter which team he played for. When we was an Eagle he brought some of that intensity against us. But that's simply because that's the way he is.

But it should be obvious by now that in his heart he's a Redskin, so he's ok in my book.

Mitchell played hard. How can you not like him?

I'm not sure he is a HOF guy. The HOF doesn't really quite know what to do with specialists like him. Frankly, I'm not sure what the place is for them either. He gained a zillion yards but did so more through longevity than anything else. If he had only lasted 5 years as a return guy (like most of them), he probably wouldn't be in the discussion. And I'm not sure longevity necessarily warrants a place in the HOF. But I could be convinced.

I do like him as a broadcaster though. He's very smart and not afraid to take a stand.

Two years ago, he was doing a post-game show on Comcast and was criticizing some team's (either the Ravens or Redskins) about their special teams play. His argument was basically that the teams should call him because he was still better than anyone on the field. I had a hard time disagreeing with that.
