I don't get that at all.

We have a ton of guys who can run the ball.

Use those open spots for CB's and OL.

Neither do I, but for a different reason. This is effectively the equivelant of signing you or me as a RB.

UCONN is one of the few college football teams I pay any attention to. Largely because I need something to laugh at on occassion every fall. That school doesn't even belong playing NCAA Div. I football; nevermind having players drafted (2 last year) or signed as UDFA's.

C'mon guys, are you serious? You don't get this? It's not like he's going to compete with Portis and Betts okay. He's going to get a look as a "Teams" guy and if he's lucky, he'll land on the Practice Squad. For mini camps and into training camp, we need bodies so the stars don't get worn out. Nothing wrong with signing an RB for mini camp reps.

Hail,

H

I'm a UCONN grad and have watched him play. He's a pretty good back, nothing special. Had a good year in 2004 when he rushed for 1200 yards, which I believed led the Big East. Played pretty poorly last year after two qbs got hurt. Could play some special teams.

Betts is in his last year here. What's wrong with seeing if someone has enough talent to be put on the practice squad for a year and learn the system. If he can't play the cost has been minimal.

We'll take 7 or 8 running backs into training camp, and we only have 4. They'll look at him for special teams and reserve duty-- maybe to challenge Nemo. He looked like a solid UDFA prospect from the 2-3 UConn games I saw. Maybe he turns into something. Priest Holmes wasn't drafted at all, and Earnest Byner and Terry Allen were both drafted well past the 7th round.

What's the big deal? We should sign as many UFA's going into camp at whatever positions we deem necessary in order to get a good look at the roster this summer. There's no risk at signing an UFA - so why all the concern?

The point of this is if we find the next Priest Holmes or maybe a Samkon Gado we are gonna have an unbelievable RB Combination for years to come in Clinton Portis/(Insert Name).

People don't get this because he is a 7th RB. You are limited to how many guys you can have at camp. Unless we plan to go light in TC elsewhere, some RB is NOT going to TC.
