Burgold
Probably just based on their boards, but it's an interesting thing. They drafted strictly for offense. Gibbs likes veterans and Williams likes molding?

RabidFan
Is Kili going to be moved to DL? cause we did draft a versatile OL.
terpfan
That and I think we had more needs overall on defense.
bigdog77s
Well we had a good D last year, and had a few losses in off season that we needed to fill. The offense needed some improving too, but we took care of those needs in free agency, so no need to spend much of the draft on offense
RIDETHEWALRUS
Defense wins championships, and two big time FA WRs, a solid FA TE, and 2 guys on the O-line in FA seems like our draft needs on O were already minimized
LoudMouth12thMan
Yeah we didn't need anything on offense other than OL depth, so it's kind of a no brainer...I think we filled the needs we had at defense...actually we didn't really need the draft at all IMO, but we did pick up some great potential. DWinzit
It's all about the defense. When was the last time you saw the skins draft such a ratio of defense to offense? Williams has done a great job of searching the undrafted to find gems. This time he was given some draft picks. Many of these guys will be nice backups and someday perhaps move into starting roles. Burgold
Actually, hasn't Gibbs given his first pick to the defense each year? Sean Taylor and Carlos Rogers. It's a good point that there have been a more even mix of players last year, even to the extent that we got a first rounder for both o and d. Fred Jones
I think also that the staff felt the defenisve players were higher on their draft board then any of the offensive players available at that pick. These D players impressed the coaching staff enough to take them. I think BPA applies as much as need.
PlayAction
The draft was not really all defense when you think about it. First round pick this year was used for a QB Cambell. The third? round pick was used for WR Brandon Lloyd. One late round pick was used for the OL. It's just that we used the picks on the Offense earlier than actual draft day. bulldog
the Redskins have a good defense but really did need to upgrade the backup spots with younger talent and guys with some upside. we didn't have much behind Marshall and Washington at linebacker and hence the two draft picks there and the two UDFAs we signed quickly after the draft. on the DL we had a couple of guys like Aki Jones that were not developing. we have Demetric Evans as a plugger, a guy who can go in and fill in at all 4 spots, but he is really a DE, hence the draft for two DTs. the move for a backup safety was necessitated by the release of Matt Bowen and the departure of Ryan Clark. I didn't see the Skins spending a pick on cornerback, not this year. Ditto for DE where the acquisition of Andre Carter and the re-signing of Demetric Evans gives us 4 players to rotate in and out
