Welfare to kids of illegals at $276 million

BY TROY ANDERSON, Staff Writer

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich said Tuesday that he will tell Congress that close to 100,000 children of illegal immigrants in the county collect $276 million in annual welfare benefits.

Antonovich, who is in Washington with the Board of Supervisors, will meet with congressional representatives and provide information about the impact of illegal immigration on county services.

Antonovich said 98,703 children of 57,458 undocumented parents received Cal-WORKS welfare checks in January, or a total of 156,161 recipients.

"If incorporated into a city, it would be the sixth-largest city in Los Angeles County," Antonovich said in a statement Tuesday. "While legal immigration is a positive influence on our culture and economy ... in public safety, health care and public social services, illegals cost county taxpayers nearly three quarters of a billion dollars a year."

Shirley Christensen, spokeswoman for the Department of Public Social Services, said her office provided the data to Antonovich.

How do we know if this is correct.

It is from the goverment, you can ALWAYS trust them :D

Heres one from a non-partisan group

http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html

This study is one of the first to estimate the total impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget. Most previous studies have focused on the state and local level and have examined only costs or tax payments, but not both. Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion.

Yadda yadda yadda...

We've been telling you guys all along there are all sorts of costs to illegal immigration...

Do you think they get health benefits with their low-paying jobs?

And I can tell you that in my industry, I've seen illegals working for the crew that provided the lowest estimate and while the foreman is there for a day or two, the guys who can barely understand the language are the ones doing all the work.

On its own that isn't a huge deal but when employers do not even ATTEMPT to find employees and deal with the regulations and taxes that ALL Americans must deal with, they create a situation where 'illegals' do the work Americans won't do, except that it IS work Americans will do, but we all have to play by the rules. Otherwise, they are creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's why cabbies may all be foreign (legal or illegal) in some places but are regular white or black dudes in places like Seattle or Ann Arbor (just from my own experience.)
