ArmchairRedskin
News & Notes: Brown, Jones Released By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com April 28, 2006 The Redskins have released wide receiver Antonio Brown and defensive lineman Aki Jones, the team announced on Friday. The release of Brown did not come as a surprise. The Redskins had signed former Pittsburgh Steelers standout Antwaan Randle El in free agency. Randle El is expected to take over returning punts and possibly serve as a kickoff return specialist as well. Antonio Brown Brown spent parts of the last two seasons with the Redskins. Last year, he was the team's primary kick return specialist coming out of preseason, but he fumbled a kickoff in the season opener and was released. http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=16815

fdarugar
He won us that game in AZ...not too sad to see him go though, I think he will get picked up cuz of his big play potential. I wonder how much this saved on the cap?

praise_gibbs
It was bound to happen I guess. I actually liked Antonio Brown--when he was not fumbling. If it was not for him, we could have lost that game @ ARZ and in turn--not making the playoffs. As any NFL player, he has had his good and bad times/plays. Nonetheless, he will be missed by me and I would like to think, by many other B & G bleeders as well.
More Complete
Brown is not shocking. He's fast but that's about it. I don't think he has what it takes to make it in the NFL. At least, not now. I wonder why they let Aki go however.

TheLongshot
I wonder why they let Aki go however. Well, the article did say he got hurt in NFL Europe. All this sounds like getting the cap ready for the draft. Jason
kevinklein
This was a long time coming. He served in purpose in winning that game in Arizona. His hands are simply to poor to be kept on the team.
MuDDSL1DE
Imagine how scary it would be for the other teams to see Santana Moss and Antawn Randell El back there when they kickoff and punt the ball. Do you guys think we would use both for that or would it just be a waste of their energy?

I wonder how much this saved on the cap? yeah he did score the TD that we needed but it wasnt like he was on the field all by his lonesome. there was a big hole to run through. however a slower guy wouldnt have made it through before it closed on him. i, like most others, like his story. hopefully he gets picked up by someone. Dallas sucks so much they couldnt even defeat the lowly Rams. And no it doesnt matter that the game 'didnt matter' for them. We beat the Vikings(who needed the game to make the playoffs) in our 04 season finale. By the way, Sean Taylor showed how great he really is in that game going one-on-one with Moss on a jump ball and came away the victor.

Spartacus87
Poor Antonio. I hope he gets picked up by someone, if he had just had sure hands he'd be alright with his blazing speed. Considering his background and what he's come from and had to deal with in his life, I could only wish him the best and hope he comes by another job somewhere in the NFL for financial security for him and his family. Do you guys think we would use both for that or would it just be a waste of their energy? It would be a good formation to use sparingly. Once in a while we could run a reverse (or fake reverse) and chances are we would ultimately end up with a big play sooner or later.
Warhead36
I feel bad for the guy. He was great for us at times, and other times he made us cringe. If he could just work on those damn hands.....**** him and Randle El would have been the sickest return tandem in the league.
LT Smash
yea, i hope he catches on somewhere- as long as its out of the division. maybe somewhere like miami, where lavar shoulda gone. hopefully antonio wont betray us
DCMONEY
wonder why they let aki jones go I wondering also. I watched him in preseason and for what is was worth he played well to me. He didn't get blown off the ball and played the run well.

DiscoBob
He seemed like a good guy, so I kinda feel bad for him, but he just didn't have the hands or tackle-breaking ability.... I know he is small, but there were are multiple punts where he was taken down by what looked like a fairly weak tackle - one arm kind of stuff..... Kurd Cudins
I think the fact that he didn't make an NFL EUROPE team speaks volumes. Why haven't we released the other 27 WR's on the roster that have NO chance of making the team. I hope they keep Farris on the practice squad. bubba9497
That's sad, but that's football. Once we signed Randle-El his days (and #82) were numbered curious about Jones. I thought he had potential.
