bryceb07
Ok, we are constantly getting threads about Sean Taylor and what is going on with his court case. I am an uneducated college student. What is going on and bottom line, is all this looking good or bad for Sean ? All the postpones and stuff I mean. Please let me know on a 3rd grade level. ( Haha ) I mean this guy is my favorite Redskins and will probably cry if he goes to Jail. Thanks all .... :notworthy

skins4eva
The lead prosecutor resigned in disgrace, a new judge and prosecutor have been assigned to the case, and I got the impression from the Post article that Taylor's counsel knows the the new DA. Bottom line--this is good for Sean Taylor. I don't think the Miami prosecutor's office wants to bring even more disgrace on themselves by bringing this case to trial and then losing. Jimbo
I would like to see the prosecution take the easy way out and lay all the blame on Greico and say this case is really no longer worth pursuing. brandies
As a criminal defense attorney I am feeling very good at this point. The accuser has no credibility, the prosecutor's office has botched it and they should be running up against speedy trial issues pretty soon. At a 3rd grade level Taylor has a big smile on his face at this point.

Speedy trial issues won't come up since Taylor has asked for and gotten many continuances himself - waiving the right to a speedy trial.
jfs06473
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/04/26/bc.fbn.redskins.taylor.ap/index.html Grieco has resigned from the DA's office (see link, above). Despite the "official" reasons, there can't be any doubt that this resignation was requested by his boss. I'm hoping this means that the DA will eventually drop the charges against ST, if for no other reason than to avoid potential additional embarrassment. :logo:

TD Riggo
There are many of us out there. What i ahve learned at college is the Deffinition of Binge Drinking and how it makes you feel the next morning while you wash your sheets... I didn't have the luxury of going to college after high school, and thus had to wait and start in my mid-twenties. Because of heavy work and family issues (I was married too), I had to delay taking classes for a year or two a couple of times, and finally got my degree in my early thirties. Nothing tweaked me more than a 20-year old acting as if, because he was in college, he was Mr Smarty Pants! I would hear these guys talk about how smart they were and think "Wait until you get out and get a job and REALLY learn from the school of hard knocks!" College is great but when you get out into the working world, you soon realize how little you really know!

freakinandpeakin
I dont understand why people even bother typing on this website if they are mad someone else started a thread. Just laugh and look at another freakin post . RELAX! Yeah, just search out my posts. They are all eloquent. In any event, No one knows anything at this point. As for the notion that things are running up against some speedy trial deadline, that is false. All of the delays have been requests from the defense, or granted by the defense. There is no speedy trial issue involved in this case. As for the removal of one DA and a new DA assigned. It isn't bad news, but you can't read anything into it. The new DA could decide to go forward and the case will. If he decides to drop it, then that would be better. We don't know anything as of right now. I have a relative who is a former federal prosecutor and he said that he would feel good about the case from the defense perspective based on what he knows. At the same time, he was hesitant to go with the defense on the notion of turning down the felony plea deal that was rumored, because Taylor would have avoided jail time. While an NFL suspension may have followed, his perspective was that better take a 4 game rap than risk YEARS in jail and the bulk of his earning potential as a football player. RedskinInExile
Ok, I just got out of a criminal law exam, so I'm in the frame of mind: I'll give this one a shot. In Florida, you can use force to protect your property, BUT you cannot use deadly force. If you point a gun at the "victims" and put them in reasonable fear for their lives, thats enough to sustain the "aggravated assault with a firearm" charges. In my (admittedly inexperienced) opinion, the case seems pretty good for the prosecution unless the defense can provide reasonable doubt that Taylor pulled a gun. (Considering all the mess that's been happening the the courtroom and with the witnesses, though, this may not be impossible.) Haha, that being said, I'm only finishing up my first year at law school, so don't put too much stock in what I'm saying. The defense attorney who posted earlier will probably be tearing my little anlaysis apart shortly...
Reaganaut
I have been watching this closely ever since Art broke the story through Sharpie, Taylor's lawyer. They are going to drop the case as soon as enough time has passed that it doesn't appear directly related to the Grieco resignation. They'll wait until mid-May then drop the case with little fanfare (except here!) My $.02.
brandies
Speedy trial issues won't come up since Taylor has asked for and gotten many continuances himself - waiving the right to a speedy trial. That delay is attribitable to the defense; I think the state is going to run up against time problems now. See: Barker v.
