Popeman38
I notice a few Gnats fans have trolled over to give us grief about the prima they just signed "away" from us. Which got me thinking, why do these guys trash a player when he is here and then act like he is the best LB ever to pad up? I wish that a Gnats fan (other than Tom) would debate LOGICALLY how they assume that an LT wannabe is going to make them the best team in the division? I doubt I will get any takers, but I would like to have this conversation. Oh, and by the way: :gaintsuck :gaintsuck :gaintsuck
#98QBKiller
I pretty much agree. When Lavar was here they said he was a fat, injured, overrated, past-his-prime LB, but now that he's on their team he's the next LT....give me a break. I can't hate Lavar, he's one of my favorite players of all time and I wish him luck as long as he isn't playing us....but it would be nice if some fans weren't so fair-weather. It happens to 'skins fans too so we can't really blame it on any one group.... How many people on here were praising Lavar and asking for him back all the way up until he signed with the Giants....only to begin bashing him as soon as it was official? Lombardi's_kid_brother
Like our fans don't immediately: A. Turn on every player who leaves, or B. Overpraise every player who signs. In the last 16 months, Fred Smoot has gone - in or eyes - from future All Pro to bum. Meanwhile, Randle El has gone from a 35-catch guy to the most dangerous #2 receiver in the league. jeronimobrat
I can think back to when Champ Bailey had made the decision of signing with the Denver Broncos, one could not even imagine the frustration that was percolating my inner body in every sense of the verbatim. I thought- how could you not retain a person of his natural talent? But, it made me respect him more as a player for not signing with a team within the division (a la The Eagles) which was the dominating team during that time period. In Lavar's case- we are now talking about a player whom we presume is injury-riddled. As some of us would say (he now stands on one leg.) I have told a many of people that I have the upmost respect for Lavar as a person, but not as a player. Because if this is not about attacking the organization that he bought his freedom from, then why would he have signed with The Giants! These Little G Fans can glamour about this guy all they want to, but take it as a learning experience from us- do not be sucked into this delusion!:gaintsuck :gaintsuck :gaintsuck :gaintsuck

Popeman38
I understand being a homer. But going to another team's message board with the explicit intent to incite is a little over the top. Fans are fans are fans.[/quote'] Using Freddy was probably not the best example since he actually was a bum last year but I agree with your general premise to a point. But it is also not just this board that does that. Every board does that. In fact I would go so far to say that this forum is much less apt to do it than others. I would also like to point out that the rabble has been correct on occasion. Laveraneus Coles isn't a #1 anymore and we were better off without him. I would love to have Smoot back but he wasn't worth the money he got from Minnesota. Champ Bailey, while being a very good CB, is not the best CB in football. A shutdown CB does not give up 10 TD receptions in any year like he did in 2004. A shutdown CB also doesn't get thrown at with regularity. As for Lavar, people were turning on him last year so he doesn't necessarily fit under your scenarios. Of course, the trashing of him has gone overboard since it became apparent he was gone but Lavar also made his own bed.

Thirtyfive2seven
I think that this situation is a little different in that LaVar has been injured for the better part of 2 seasons. Was he healthy enough to play last season? Probably, but that's not the point. Our coaching staff, whom I have a great amount of respect for in their ability to judge talent decided that LaVar was NOT GOOD ENOUGH to play in our system. This could have been due to lots of things such as the contract dispute, etc., but I trust this coaching staff knows their stuff. That said, LaVar is not Chump Bailey, a shut down corner in his prime. LaVar is NOT Fred Smooth, a pretty good player, also in his prime. LaVar IS an injured, fat, out of shape LB with emotional issues. I love the guy, but the Giants aren't getting Chump Bailey here. They are getting a LB who never really lived up to his potential. LaVar will play well for them, but I don't think he'll ever live up the hype and dreams we had for him here in DC. Good luck LaVar, except when Sellars knocks your ass into next week 2x next season. You know that Champ Bailey wasn't a free agent... but rather the Redskins "traded" him to the Broncos for Portis right? It was Gibbs who decided he wasn't going to trade within the division. Bailey had nothing to do with it.

Have you seen him lately..Doesn't look fat and out of shape to me. Guess his play on the field will determine who was right, as it should be. And my bet is that when he plays well, the people on this board will start talking nonsense about how he didn't fit into our "system" and his success is due to the fact that the Giants let him "free-lance"
LoudMouth12thMan
The reason Giants fans are coming in here and saying that they landed a great FA in Lavar is hope...They hope that he is a great player this year and not injury prowned and insubordinate especially in his defensive assignments. Fact is G fans are hoping that the money they just spent on this guy isn't a waist...so in order to mask any real concern, they gloat and bark really loud about picking up Lavar. Deep down, they know this was a risky pick up for their team. Only time will tell if allowing Lavar to run around like a chicken with no head fits into the Giant's defensive scheme. Remember, you can't teach an old dog knew tricks so I hope that the Giants use Lavar and play to his stregths...actually I hope they don't and Lavar is mediocre at best. :2cents: :gaintsuck
