Guest santana4prez
A great read about Mark Brunell talking about his rocky 2004 , his comeback in 2005 ,and whats ahead in 2006. http://nflplayers.com/news/news_release.aspx?id=5057 Quarterback Mark Brunell came to Washington in March of 2004 hoping to resurrect a career that had soured after nine seasons in Jacksonville. The Redskins were so enthralled by Brunell that they surrendered a coveted third-round draft pick to the Jaguars to acquire his services and signed him to a seven-year deal worth nearly $43 million. The move put the veteran left-hander into Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs' driver seat and signaled expectations for big things to come in Washington. But a lingering hamstring injury and poor play from Brunell in an offense being guided by Gibbs who had just rejoined the Redskins after 12 years out of football, resulted in a disastrous start to the Brunell era in Washington. Brunell opened the 2004 season as the starter, but struggled often. He threw six interceptions and only seven touchdown passes to finish with a lowly 63.9 QB rating through nine games before being benched for Patrick Ramsey for the remaining seven contests. Guest santana4prez
http://nflplayers.com/news/news_release.aspx?id=5057 Brunell's efforts were so uplifting that they earned him the JB Award for Perseverance at the NFL Players Gridiron Gala which was presented to him on April, 18 in Washington, DC. :applause: :applause: :applause: Brunell deserved this award. hercules
Brunell seems to have his best games against the Cowboys. :applause: That alone should be enough to endear him to Redskins fans.

robotfire
Before any Brunell-haters get on here, I just wanted to say that he's the best quarterback we've had since I can even remember. Clint
pvkeeper19
Before any Brunell-haters get on here, I just wanted to say that he's the best quarterback we've had since I can even remember.Clint Brad Johnson wasn't bad in '99. I've always been a fan of Brunell since his days in Jacksonville. The Jags were the other team I like to watch when the 'Skins weren't doing so hot, and they never let me down (like with that 62-7 dismantling of the Dolphins in the playoffs in 1999). He's a class guy and in his day he was one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks. The only thing that makes me nervous is his age, and the possibility that his "day" is over. Here's hoping not. :helmet:
Weganator
Brunell will get us through this season and do very well, lets just hope that he can pass some wisdom onto Campbell and allow for a smooth transition.

CalSkinsFan
Against the Cowboys (as a Redskin):Brunell - 57/97 59% 779 yds 8 TDs 1 Ints :applause: :applause: :applause: I was (pleasently) surprised when I saw those numbers. Those stats are for 3 games (he was out with the hammy for the 2nd game in '04). In addition to the 2 wins last year (which we all remember well), the other game was in week 3 of '04 (which I didn't remember very well). Although a 18-21 loss, Brunell had a another great game: 25 for 43 (58%), 325 yrds, 2 TD vs 0 int. Many of us think of Santana Moss as such, but maybe Brunell should be known as our Cowboy Killer. tonyriggins
I dont think that I will ever get over his perfomance in 04 and Gibbs stubbornness to bench him. Brunell had nowhere to go but up after that. I thought he should have been benched last year also, keep in mind that when Ramsey went head to head with Mark that Patrick was 10 points higher in the QB rating. It doesn't matter who the backup is coach is not going to bench him.

Fifty Gut
Gibbs instead stuck with Brunell for rest of that 9-7 victory over Chicago and eventually for the remainder of the year. that was a crazy moment, the second Brunell went in, you knew it was on... hoping for a replay of the Brunell we saw last preseason, lighting up second stringers
CM916
Many of us think of Santana Moss as such, but maybe Brunell should be known as our Cowboy Killer. Brunell said it himself in the acceptance speech, he couldn't have done it alone... and now he has two more great receivers to help him. Here's to Brunell and the best team in the NFL. Against the Cowboys (as a Redskin):Brunell - 57/97 59% 779 yds 8 TDs 1 Ints :applause: :applause: :applause: Hail to the those numbers!!!! I knew they were good but damn those are beasty.:notworthy I thought he should have been benched last year also, keep in mind that when Ramsey went head to head with Mark that Patrick was 10 points higher in the QB rating. I dont see why you would of wanted to bench Brunell last season. You put Ramsey in their and we dont make the playoffs period. It doesn't matter who the backup is coach is not going to bench him. Gibbs knows what Brunell can do and if I was him I wouldnt bench him either. Brunells first year i was calling for Ramsey as well but after watching Brunell last year I can see why Gibbs likes him so much. Brunell can play and win period.
