Falun Gong practitioner shouted at Chinese president from media area

WASHINGTON - A woman accused of heckling Chinese President Hu Jintao during a White House appearance was charged Friday in federal court with willfully intimidating, coercing, threatening and harassing a foreign official.

Dr. Wang Wenyi, 47, had obtained temporary press credentials for Hu's visit Thursday as a reporter for a Falun Gong newspaper and positioned herself on a camera stand. After Hu began speaking, she shouted in Chinese and in English: "President Bush, stop him from killing" and "President Bush, stop him from persecuting the Falun Gong."

She was waving a banner with the red and yellow colors used by Falun Gong, a spiritual movement banned in China. She kept shouting for several minutes before Secret Service agents led her from the stand.

If convicted, she could receive up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. She is a medical doctor and a practitioner of Falun Gong.

Falun Gong protests throughout NYC. Their protests are bizarre and borderline obsence in the degree of violence that they depict to be their course of treatment in China. They often have one of their followers in a cage with painted on soars and blood. It's macabre on the order of a bad horror movie--and for that reason, I've never taken their pamphlets seriously.

So, why hasn't Cindy Sheehan been arrested numerous times?

Um ... she HAS been arrested numerous times:

...but it's a good point - it does seem like the threshhold for protest against foreign officials is lower than that for our own leaders.

maybe it is the foreign official part

Why isn't this protected under free speech?

Time for a Predicto prediction.

1) She was arrested as a political/diplomatic thing. The Chinese are very attuned to protocal, and her outburst was very embarassing to Hu.

2) Charges will be dropped down the road when thing quiet down.

#1 isn't a prediction :)

still though, it is kind of disturbing that the justice system is used for that, but nothing new.

I 've seen them all over too. It weird, but that doesnt stop me from taking them seriously. I think they could come up with some fresh ideas though.

My questions is, how did the secret service not see this coming? I mean, once in a lifetime stage for a political outburst (Bush-Hu White House lawn ceremony), reporter for Falun Gong newspaper. And yet they still gave her the press pass? My guess is someone in the Sercret Service is getting reamed for this by higher-ups.

I'm sorry, I meant to say why hasn't Cindy Sheehan been EXECUTED yet. My bad.

Oh, please. Ridiculous. I think they meant to cite to the section of the code that forbids willfully embarrassing or shaming foreign officials or the President.
