brandies
Okay, I am totally bored so am putting up a poll. Since these players are more obscure I am posting information about them from Scott Wright, a good source, take a look: http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/rankings/ot.html / and another good source "The Great Blue Draft report" http://www.gbnreport.com/ Actually, my favorite is Mel, but I have not got my report from him yet; if anyone wants to post his top 150 it would be welcome. I guess the jist of this is that we can find a player who can contribute in the 5th round. I think Marcus Hudson would be an intriguing pick just in case Taylor is not acquitted which is doubtful. sorry, no poll Rashad Butler OT 6-5, 295 Miami Strengths: Has good size with a lanky frame and long arms...Excellent athlete with good quickness...Light on his feet and displays great footwork...Solid technician and plays with good leverage...Mobile and can get to the second level...Big upside. Weaknesses: Undersized and needs to bulk up but has the frame to do so...Is not very powerful and needs to get stronger...Is not very stout at the point and can get pushed back on bull rushes...May lack a killer instinct...Dealt with ankle injuries. Notes: Was overshadowed by Eric Winston but some scouts think Butler might be an even better prospect...Could possibly play left tackle at the pro level...Needs to develop physically but definitely has the tools to work with and a lot of potential. Elvis Dumervil DE 5-11, 258 Louisville Has great quickness with a burst...Solid build with long arms...Natural pass rusher who just knows how to get to the quarterback...Sheds blockers well...Turns the corner well...Has a great motor and never gives up on a play...Is always around the ball...Hard worker with good intangibles...Productive and notched double-digit sacks in both his junior and seniors seasons including 20 in 2005 alone. Weaknesses: Does not have the size you look for...Lacks elite timed speed...Is not a great natural athlete...Does not change directions well or have the agility necessary to make the move to outside linebacker...Needs to get stronger...Sub par versus the run...Did not play against a lot of elite competition or top offensive linemen. Notes: Came through with a monster senior campaign...Won the Nagurski and Hendricks Awards...Don't buy the Dwight Freeney comparisons because this guy isn't in that class when it comes to speed / athleticism...Doesn't have the physical tools you look for in terms of size and speed but you can't ignore his amazing production. Zach Strief OT 6-7, 350 Northwestern Strengths: Has excellent size and a massive frame...Displays outstanding technique...Stout at the point of attack...Tough and has a nasty demeanor on the field...Smart and a team leader...Hard worker with top intangibles...Durable and very experienced. Weaknesses: Is not a great natural athlete...Is not very mobile...Has below average feet and quickness...Does not do a great job against speedy edge rushers...Weight and conditioning can become a problem...Is not very versatile...Upside is limited. Notes: A prototypical NFL right tackle...A three-year starter in the Big Ten...Might not be the flashiest guy around but he just gets the job done...The type who will not be a high pick but will come in and end up contributing, if not starting, for a long time. LeKevin Smith DT 6-2, 300 Nebraska Strengths: An outstanding athlete...Has great speed and quickness...Stout at the point of attack and an outstanding run stuffer in the middle...Can penetrate and make plays behind the line of scrimmage...Came through with the best season of his career as a senior...Has a lot of experience as a three-year (35 game) starter. Weaknesses: Durability is a question and he has suffered major injuries to both knees...Has an inconsistent motor and doesn't always give maximum effort...Is a little shorter than you'd prefer...Is not much of a sack artist...Needs to get stronger...Might be a wave player...Doesn't always play up to his potential and is an underachiever. Notes:First name is pronounced Leh-KEE-vin...An interesting player who has all the physical tools to make it...A quality nose tackle prospect who might fit best in a 3-4 defense...Could really surprise if he can stay healthy and play hard all the time. Rob Sims OG 6-5, 305 Strengths: A pretty good athlete...Has excellent strength...Smart and a good technician who displays great footwork...Has the tools and can dominate at times...Versatile and has played both guard and tackle...Experienced and was a three-year starter. Weaknesses: Does not have the height you look for...Is not very mobile or agile and struggles in space...May lacks a nasty streak...Needs to be more consistent...Needs to get in better shape and his stamina is a question mark...A bit of an underachiever. Notes: His father, Mickey, played for the Cleveland Browns from 1977 to 1979...Played guard for most of his career but started 11 games at left tackle in 2004...Has the ability to start at the next level and most of his weaknesses can be corrected. Ohio State Jamar Williams LB 6-1, 245 Arizona State Strengths: Smart and has outstanding football instincts...Has solid speed...Powerful and an explosive hitter...Displays good strength...Has a good motor and is all over the field...Very productive and experienced...Team leader with top-notch intangibles. Weaknesses: Does not have the ideal height you look for...Is not very quick or agile...Can be too aggressive at times...Lacks discipline and will tend to take himself out of plays...Struggles in coverage...Might only be a situational player in the pros. Notes: A three-year starter...Doesn't have all the physical tools you'd prefer but it's the stuff you can't measure that makes him what he is...While he may never be a star this guy is not the type you should doubt...At worst a backup and special teamer. Gerrick McPherson CB 5-10, 195 Maryland Strengths: One of the fastest players in the draft...An outstanding athlete with tremendous leaping ability...Has a solid frame and is extremely strong for his size...Tough and physical...Has a burst and can recover from mistakes...A solid tackler who will help versus the run...Still has a lot of upside and most of his flaws can be worked on. Weaknesses: Does not have the ideal height you look for...Doesn't always play up to his talent...Does not have great instincts...Struggles with big wideouts...Overall technique is lacking...Has some durability concerns with his shoulders...Does not pick off many passes...Might be more of a workout warrior than football player. Notes: Father played defensive back with the New England Patriots and brother, Derrick, is a freshman football player at the University of Illinois...Named All-ACC in indoor track for his third-place finish at the 2005 ACC Indoor Championships...Should be one of the stars of the workout season and could easily see his stock soar. Pat Ross C 6-4, 295 Boston College Strengths: Has the frame to get bigger...Technically sound...Very smart and is like a coach on the field...Sets a wide base and stays on his feet...Holds his blocks well...Hard worker with good intangibles...Always gives 100% and has a football players mentality...Took over for Dan Koppen and was a three-year starter...Hails from a program with a strong history of producing NFL talent along the offensive line. Weaknesses: Is not very quick, agile, or athletic...Does not move all that well and has only average feet...Needs to bulk up and get stronger...Struggles in space...Weak initial punch...Isn't very explosive or dominant...Does not have a lot of upside. Notes: Could also play offensive guard...Began his career as a defensive tackle...Classic Golden Eagle lineman who isn't flashy but just gets the job done...Should play in the league for a long time and will be a top interior backup at the very least. Victor Adeyanju DE 6-4, 268 Indiana Strengths: Has excellent size and the frame to get even bigger...A tremendous natural athlete...Speed and quickness are outstanding...Has good range and pursues well...Has a great motor...Puts in his time in the weight room...A hard worker with top intangibles who wants to be the best...Tough and durable with four-years of starting experience...Still has a ton of upside and his best football is still to come. Weaknesses: Still very raw and needs some development...Needs to work on his technique and will play too high at times...Must develop additional pass rush moves...Could do a better job against the run...Might be a bit of a workout warrior...Was not super productive throughout his career...Needs to bulk up and put on some weight. Notes: Spent much of his childhood living in Nigeria...Has all the physical tools you look for but is just a little rough around the edges...Could become a top pro defensive end with the right coaching...You could see a team fall in love with his potential. Marcus Hudson FS 6-0, 200 North Carolina State (CB) Strengths: A good natural athlete...Has excellent ball skills...Is physical and will support the run...Very instinctive...Productive and has a lot of experience...Versatile and might be able to play multiple positions...Still has a lot of upside...Has great bloodlines. Weaknesses: Does not have outstanding timed or recovery speed...Struggles a bit in man coverage and has trouble staying with wideouts...Has some minor durability concerns...Makes too many mental errors and intelligence is a concern...Might not have a perfectly defined pro position and may need to be in the right scheme. Notes: Has four brothers who also played college football...A safety / cornerback 'tweener whose pro position is yet to be determined...Will likely be evaluated differently depending on each team but with his size a lot of clubs are interested. Charles Gordon CB 5-11, 180 Kansas Strengths:A good natural athlete...Has excellent ball skills...Is physical and will support the run...Very instinctive...Productive and has a lot of experience...Versatile and might be able to play multiple positions...Still has a lot of upside...Has great bloodlines. Weaknesses: Does not have outstanding timed or recovery speed...Struggles a bit in man coverage and has trouble staying with wideouts...Has some minor durability concerns...Makes too many mental errors and intelligence is a concern...Might not have a perfectly defined pro position and may need to be in the right scheme. terpfan
Nice list... a lot of those guys look like pretty good propsects. A nice backup OL would be great at that pick. I like Adeyanju, but there is no way he falls to the 5th (well never say never I guess) but he's a 3rd round prospect.
Bangee7
Man, I can't believe Dumerville would fall that far. Wasn't he like the sack leader (or close) this past year? I guess his combine numbers must've really been bad.
TheSource
Slim chance...but Kai Parham out of UVA may be available in the 5th. He's a sure tackling LB who lacks ideal speed, but is intelligent and is an ideal LB size. 5th round would be a steal because he plays a lot faster than his 40 time. He'll probably be gone in the 4th round to the Pats, Steelers, or Cowboys.
TaylorPickSix
I really like Dumerville, but our coaches seem high on Macpherson.
