Top 5 All-Time Greats in Profesional Football, Regardless of Position

I mentioned in another thread that I though LT was one of the top 5 all-time greats in the game, and that got me thinking; who are my all-time top 5? Considering how many great football players there have been, it's really hard to narrow it down to just 5 - so many others are deserving. And since my age limits me from seeing the old-timers play, this is a fairly recent list.

So for me, in no particular order, it's:

Sammy Baugh. Revolutionized the game, bringing the forward pass into the 20th century. Lead the leauge in passing and punting at one time, had 4TD passes and 4 INTS in one game.

Jim Brown. His 5.2 yards per carry over his entire career is really astonishing, especialy considering how big we was. During the first 4 years of his career, only 12 games were played per season - it moved to 14 in 1961 - so it's really remarkable that his all-time yards mark stood for so long. If he played 16 games a year and didn't retire in his prime, he'd still be the all-time leading rusher, no doubt about it.

Lawrence Taylor What can I say about LT? Another man who completely revolutionized his position. Entire offenses were designed to stop him. He was a menace. The Giants are still looking for their first SB win without him.

Jerry Rice Simply the greatest WR to ever play the game. His records may never be broken. 197 TD catches, 10 TD runs, 1 TD pass. That's totally of the charts. Could beat anybody, even thoguh he was never the fastest guy on the field.

Reggie White I was going to say Joe Montana, but I had to go with Reggie for a few reasons. 198 career sacks, 21 sacks in 1987, started his career with 9 consecutive seasons of 10 more more sacks (a record). Even after he went to Green Bay and wasn't teamed along that famous Eagles D-line, he avergaed just over 10 sacks a season.

Who are yours?

1.) Barry Sanders - best runner I've seen in my lifetime, low center of gravity made him a special player.

2.) Lawrence Taylor - A fierce Linebacker that revolutionized the position

3.) Jerry Rice - The best wide reciever to ever play the game

4.) Deion Sanders - you cant argue, at one point offenses would not throw his way once, and special team coaches went nuts when he would return punts, in his prime...he was the best corner to ever play.

5.) Joe Montana - Calm in every situation, the comeback kid

This would be my top five as well. The only guy who I think might belong in there is Jim Brown over Deion, but that's arguable. People can make fun of Deion's tackling all they want, but he never needed to tackle anyone because he was always intercepting passes or scaring the QB to throw to the other side of the field.

1. Joe Montana (Mr. Super Bowl)- Needs no argument

2. Walter Payton (Sweetness)- Maybe the best man ever to play the game of football

3. Darrell Green (Mr. Redskin)- He's Mr. Redskin, you cant agrue with that.

4. Reggie White- I was actually sad when Bruce Smith broke his record.

5. Jerry Rice- No reciever even comes close to touching him.

Rice- Greatest player I've ever seen play the game

LT- Dominant, greatest player I've ever seen play defense

Barry- Greatest RB I've ever seen

Jim Brown- Numbers speak for themselves and his highlites clearly show he wasa man amongst boys

Elway- The guy squeeks in ahead of Marino/Montana. But, on pure ability I think Elway had both these guys by a little. He finished strong and could run, pass and win.
