Air Force Cane
most married Hasidic women of certain sects either do that, or take their real hair and put them up under shawls. I am no expert on the ultra-orthodox..

iheartskins
is it true that some hasidic jew women shave their heads and wear wigs? Some Hasidic women do wear their hair quite close, but it's not shaved in the same way that some men shave their heads (e.g., bald like Michael Jordan). There's a connotation of a shaved head that's not really appicable to these women. Under Jewish law (and some say custom), Jews should wear a covering on their heads. That's why many observant Jews wear yarmulkes, and many orthodox (and more religious) women wear headbands, hats, etc. The wig phenomenon is just an extension of that. I know I'm gonna sound dumb, but what is Chametz? http://www.chabad.org/holidays/passover/pesach.asp?AID=1686
Air Force Cane
I haven't even had rice this year which means either matzoh with cream cheese, turkey meatballs, lean cuisine salisbury steak and mashed potatoes, one order of carolina bbq with no cornbread. one night of turkey meatloaf by Streits. that has been my entire diet for eight days  I am going to Cici's on the Pike after the gym and getting the 8 piece choose your own carb :notworthy
rincewind
"Question for the Jewish on here..."?why? that would be like writing "Question for the Christian on here"... does that make sense? Actually i believe the correct form would be - "Question for the Jewish people on here..." But that's just the PC answer. Is 'Jew' considered offensive? Henry
But that's just the PC answer. Is 'Jew' considered offensive? Depends on how it's said. The title of this thread didn't bother me in the least. (Yes, I'm Jewish.)
DCsportsfan53
If a Jewish person finds it offensive, then it's offensive. Jeez, I hate all this PC stuff. I'm Jewish and you can call me Jew, Jewish, Heb, whatever the **** you want. It's just plain silly how easily people get offended these days. I think it's very obvious that this thread title was in no way meant to be offensive. Context is much more important than verbage if you ask me. rincewind
If a Jewish person finds it offensive, then it's offensive. Good point. Of course there have been multiple discussion on this board as to what is offensive and who gets to decide whether or not something is offensive. I was just wondering if my kosher friends here consider it offensive.

iheartskins
calling Jewish people Jews is offensive to some....... just in case you didn't know  Please explain. For a Jew to be called a Jew is the same as a Christian to be referred to as a Christian. I don't know anyone who offened by the broad term of Jew. It's all about the context. I don't know anyone who offened by the broad term of Jew. It's all about the context. Your right, it is all about the context. But it's a slang term and it's much safer to call someone Jewish than a Jew IMO. Some see it as a derogatory remark. I think it's all personal preference to tell you the truth. BTW There is no slang term for Christian. Maybe if someone called me a "Christ", just figuratively speaking, of course. I wouldn't like it. I would want them to call me Christian. Let me get this straight...you are Christian, yet you are offended by the term Jew...eventhough several of our Jewish posters took no offense to the term and only consider it offensive if it used in the wrong context....just checking.
