Chargers sign safety Lott, adding depth in secondaryBy Len Pasquarelli

ESPN.com

Lott, 26, is a defender with good physical skills, and he can play both safety spots and on special teams, but his progress has been derailed by injuries. The former University of Tennessee star, a fifth-round choice by the Washington Redskins in the 2002 draft, has appeared in just 31 games and has 28 tackles and one sack.

Last summer, Lott suffered a knee injury during an offseason practice, reached an injury settlement with the Redskins, and was subsequently released. Two years ago, Lott went to camp as the projected starter at free safety but lost his job to first-round choice Sean Taylor.
