SAINTS SHOPPING STALLWORTH

A league source tells us that the New Orleans Saints currently are shopping former first-round receiver Donte' Stallworth.

Stallworth was the thirteenth overall selection in the 2002 draft. He is under contract through 2007, with base salaries of $1.92 million and $545,000 in the final seasons of his rookie deal.

The former Tennessee star quietly had his best season in 2005, with 70 catches for 945 yards and seven touchdowns. But he has still fallen far short of the pre-draft hype that surrounded him four years ago.

With Stallworth signed through 2007, a contract extension upon acquiring his rights isn't mandatory. However, before giving up a pick or a player for his services, it would make sense to determine whether Stallworth would be happy with the long-term piece of salary cap pie that a new team might be offering.

If the Saints move Stallworth, they'll have a significant hole to fill in the starting lineup. Chris Horn has been signed in the offseason, but the team surely would have to go back to the free-agent pool (possibly in search of some post-June 1 cuts) or draft a guy who can make the kind of impact right out of the gates that most folks expected of Stallworth's NFL career.

I wonder if they could work out a deal with GB for Walker?

That's actually a great idea.:applause: I don't see why not, they both fill a position of need and I am sure Walker wouldn't mind having Brees throw to him. Maybe if the saints thrown in an extra draft pick as well.

The Packers arent giving up javon Walker for Dante Stallworth.
Theyve gotta do something with him, he sounds like hes completely unhappy there nothing they can do will change that from sounds of it. I dont see a trade out of the question, but like someone else said a draft pick or picks will definately have to be in the fold.

Stallworth seems to have been plagued by an injury bug throughout his career... but he's a helluva talent, and I don't think he's realized even half his potential in NO.

In the right situation, Stallworth could easily be the surprise FA of next season... similar to Santana's year here.

Hahaha, NO WAY are the Saints even thinking of trading him.

Joe Horn is like 34/35, so how many seasons does he have left? He was hurt most of last year and really wasn't that good when he played.

Who else do they have at reciever? Donte Stallworth is the only guy I can name. He's young, has crazy potential, and is coming off of his best season as a pro; he's starting to get it.
