UltimateSkins
I consider myself a die hard skins fan and 1991 was the first full Redskins season that I had the pleasure of watching. I know that for the previous four years before the 1991 Alvin Walton was a starting safety who put up decent numbers for us. Then all of a sudden he vanished. Does anyone know the story behind what excatly happened to him? Was it off the field problems? He's probably the only Redskins who I have no idea why he left the team. Could someone enlighten me as to what happened?
redman
Good question. I've wondered that myself as I always loved him as a player. He was a vicious hitter.
ntotoro
I think he went to the CFL for a while, didn't he... ? My Dad used to bowl in a couple leagues with him in the late '90's or so.
UltimateSkins
Why would he go from being one of the better safeties in the NFL straight to the CFL in the prime of his career? Something strange must have happened.
DButz65
Lets email larry michael and get him to start doing (from time to time) "where are they now" segments? with AW being the first one
Grimm
He scored a TD in the 1995 Grey Cup, I think he played LB while in the CFL http://www.canoe.ca/FootballCFLGamesPlayoffs/nov19_cal_bal.html

redman
Yeah, he was a classic run-supporting and blitzing strong safety who couldn't cover a lick. Still loved the guy though. He would run through a wall to make a play.

cphil006
Wasn't our other safety Barry Wilburn. Did he have those bumps on his head?
alvin walton fan
He got beat out by Danny Copeland who was far superior in coverage. Teams went after him and exposed him in one on one situations. Copeland was never the hitter that Alvin was in the running game but he wasn't a liability either.

dcthug
Wasn't our other safety Barry Wilburn. Did he have those bumps on his head? Wilburn was a corner and until recently could be seen in around the city for those who frequent the harder sections of the city. Story has not been good 4 him. redman
Yeah - Wilburn was a pretty talented CB - nothing spectacular, but certainly talented, who had some drug problems. He led the league in INT's in the 1987 season when we won SB XXII vs. Denver, in no small part because he was playing opposite of Darrell Green. But he was out of the league for a while because of drugs before resurfacing in the mid-90's as I recall with the Eagles for a spell. Waste of talent. redskins55
Hey now that we're on the subject.. What ever happened to Brad Edwards the saftey during our superbowl season? Havent heard much from him either.. He led our team in interceptions one year.
UltimateSkins
Edwards played two more years in the league and then retired after a seven year career. Edit: I believe he was replaced by Stanley Richard who was a terrible tackler.

Rocky21
Dude, I saw Alvin Walton **** up Randall Cunningham one game. Cunningham was scrambling to his right and Walton came up and gave him a lick running full speed. Cunningham tried to get up and then crumpled to the ground. It was so schweet, it brought tears to my eyes.

Stanley Richard was probably the worst safety in the history of our franchise. "The Sheriff"
