Bhutanibeast
Does anyone know if any of our players are going into their contract year and will become free agents after this upcoming year. The only person i know is that Brandon Lloyd currently has a one year contract but will anyone else become a free agent after this year.
Ingtar
I think Ladell Betts is in the last year of his contract. I may be wrong though.

Skins4481
I'm so glad Ladell will be gone after this year. He is so Over rated IMO. I cant believe some of you guys think he can be a starter on 'most other teams'. What has he shown you? Nothing. Not a god damn thing. He's a big guy but isnt considered an 'pounder' but rather a speed rusher. Tall RBs that have good speed and no toughness are worthless. I seriously dont understand all this love for Ladell. Last year, whenever Rock was on the field, he made some plays. Ladell was nothing but an extra body to give Portis a breather. I hope Rock becomes 2nd string and Ladell 3rd. Ladell makes great catches out of the back field and he offers complement to portis....ROck is a great back IMO but his style is similar to portis.. not to mention betts returns kicks and Randle El said he only wants to return punts EDIT: I also cant see how anyone would want to change what we have in the backfield...that position on our team lacks nothing....all 3 backs are young, we should keep them intact for as long as possible
Kurd Cudins
Dockery Lloyd Betts Jimoh C. Clemons N. Clemons Frost Molinaro Albright Boschetti Walter Pucillo Most of those guys are not important, and the ones that are will be signed long-term before the start of the season. There are a couple more guys but these are ones that will probably be on the 53 man roster.

Kurd Cudins
Well find out if they are important or not after next season...especially if someone goes down....Im curious about both Clemons and Molinaro I should have used vital instead of important. I think Molinaro will do well with the added competition in camp and he has the size to be a good tackle. I really like Boschetti and have come to like clemons in a LB rotation. frost is a bad punter, which makes him as replacable as Joe Buck and our two new OL are questionable at best. Albright, the dirty red headed stepchild, could be replaced in the late rounds of the draft this year. I think there's a possibility Betts gets traded on draft day for a 4th rounder, maybe more depending how the draft goes. A month ago I thought it was a crazy notion but his contract IS ending and this could be our only opportunity to add more young talent in areas of greater need. I can't wait for the draft. I can't wait for the season.
terpfan
Are you guys serious about Betts? Do you even watch the games? He's a damn good RB...and easily one of the best backups in the league.
RedskinsSuperBowl21
well stated...im hoping lloyd will develop and stay on the team becuase he would add so much excitement...and as for the kicker we live and die with field postion so i am hoping we bring in some competition... Skins4481
That was very insightful Finally someones knows what they are talking about. Thank you, thank you. Lets see...In the 2002 NFL Draft the Broncos selected Portis with their 51st pick in the second round. The Redskins selected Betts with their 56th. Oh what a difference 5 spots make! Kurd Cudins
One thing that swung my thinking was an interview I watched of Louis Riddick on redskins.com. He was so high on Lumsden that it convinced me they felt they have a solid plan B(lumsden). Speculation, of course, but its a great interview for those who haven't seen it. Well everytime I watch a Redskins game all I hear is how Ladell Betts could be a starter for a lot of other teams in the NFL. That kind of talk from the guys who played the game and are now being paid to talk about the game have FAR more weight than anything you will ever type on this message board. So yeah, it's not even my opinion... Also Betts has been the #2 the last two years because Gibbs has wanted it that way. I'll take Gibbs over Skins4481 anyday of the week and twice on Sunday. And you can look at my previous posts I have NO qualms criticizing Gibbs, but in this case there is just so much evidence against what you are writing. And what has Rock shown other than he can be really successful against one of the worst rush defenses in the NFL and the propensity to fumble with reckless abandon? Rock has 3 fumbles in 170 career touches. Betts has 3 fumbles as well in his career. In 373 touches! Perhaps there's a pretty good reason Betts is and will be the next in line... He is the best at his position and a true skin, they resign him every single time and he comes cheap. Stupid idea to not resign him IMO.

So yeah, it's not even my opinion... I agree, Betts could and will (IMO) be a starter in the NFL. I believe Betts will be dealt this year to one of the teams looking for depth at RB. I believe we will promote another back from within the system (Mauel White, Sellers getting more carries?) to find an answer for our powerback issue. I believe Cartwright will step up to fill the #2 hole. I really liked what I saw out of him in the St. Louis game (9 car, 118 yrds, and that 52yrder) as well as 2 touchdowns on the year. I believe Betts will be dealt this year if we can get some value out of him (possible Draft Day trade?) before he becomes a FA.

terpfan
Oops, I dont know how I ended up in this thread. Nvm. Although I will add that Betts hasnt exactly gotten much of a chance to prove his worth as a starting back, and when he has started he ahs played quite well. He's not Portis, but that doesnt mean hes trash or even a bust.
inmate running the asylum
Some of you guys are to young to have been around during Gibbs1 like I was, and as a result I think I have a little better insight in how Gibbs thinks from observing his actions for 10+ years. Gibbs likes Betts as a backup, as he stated last year. As a result Betts will not be traded. Besides with the glut of RB's now on most teams, there would be very little interest in trading for Betts. Teams weren't even that interested last year in acquiring Edgerin James, Shaun Alexander, Mike Anderson and others, who could be had for the right price. Personally I think Betts is o.k., as a backup RB, but I have doubts about his durability if he had to start for 16 games. I dont think he is a great RB but he has proved when he has gotten a chance, that he can grind out 100+ yards a game. And thats what Gibbs likes. Ball control and controlling the clock. But thats beside the point. Gibbs has no hesitation in trading FOR players, but he will not usually trade AWAY Redskin players unless they are disgruntled and a detriment to the team (Coles, Gardner), or unhappy to the point they could become a distraction (Ramsey). I agree. When the line isnt falling apart on him (see Tampa Playoff game) and they actually open holes for him he is a very good running back. When portis is off teh feild i am never worried as long as Ladell is back there.
nonniey
Idisagree that Betts was a bust, he produces well when needed, is reliable nad will have played out hiw full contract. The problem with Betts is that he Redskins reached for him unneccesarily in the 2d round - but you can't hold that against him. BTW anyone really thin we can get a 4th for Betts in a market flooded with RBs? We'd get be lucky to get a future 7th.
MikeSellers45
When portis is off teh feild i am never worried as long as Ladell is back there. I feel sorry for you then. Betts never seems to get more than two yards a carry and gets injured atleast once a year for a couple of weeks. He reminds me of Stephen Davis because of his size, but he is probably just as good a RB as Trung Canidate is. I have never seen cartwright injured and he can have some really great runs. He had that 52 yarder against the Rams and against Oakland, he went 13 yards untouched for a TD. Even though he is about 220, he plays like he is 240; unlike Betts who plays like he is 200. Also, Rock has the size advantage since he is only 5'7". It makes it hard for the defense to see him. I think everyone has it wrong. Rock is the one that could be the starter for another team, not Ladell Betts
Dick Edds
Are you guys serious about Betts? Do you even watch the games? He's a damn good RB...and easily one of the best backups in the league. I agree, he's been one of the most consistant backup RB's in the league. I guess everyone else is watching different player, but i always feel real confident when Betts is in the game. Rock is great but has fumbled at inopportune times. he shows flashes of greatness, but could not be an everydown back IMO. Betts provides good edpth and is a hard runner, he remidns me of Stephen Davis except a tad bit smaller.
