Bucaro
Per PFT (I know not the most reliable source): http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm CHARGERS SHOPPING TRIO OF VETS A league source tells us that the San Diego Chargers currently are shopping three veteran players -- safety Hanik Milligan, cornerback Sammy Davis, and linebacker Donnie Edwards. Edwards is under contract through 2007, and he's scheduled to make $3.55 million in 2006. Davis' deal runs through 2009, with relatively manageable salaries. Milligan is scheduled to earn $460,000 in 2006, the final year of his rookie deal. Milligan made it to the 2005 Pro Bowl as a special-teamer, and word is that he's staying away from voluntary workouts in an effort to get a new contract. The efforts to move Edwards and Davis could be a precursor to a post-June 1 release of either or both of them. If Edwards became available for a decent price I would be very intrigued...thoughts? fdarugar
Edwards would put this defense over the top in my opinion, he is one of the most underrated players in the game. I would hope we could go after him if he gets cut.

DiscoBob
don't we only have about ~3.5mil of cap space left to sign all remaining players, or am I off on that? if so, that doesn't leave much room for vets...

bubba9497
PFT isn't that crediable but "if" Edwards was available in June. He would be a great veteran pickup, And I would love to see him wearing a Skins uni, playing for Williams
DCsportsfan53
Not sure how true this rumour is but if it is I say we should get him. He's one of the better LBs in the league and he's extraordinarily underrated. I'd certainly take him over Lavar any day of the week.

According to Warpath:http://www.thewarpath.net/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm we have 4.647 million, but this doesn't include Evans, Wright or the money pool to sign rookies. D. Edwards is an amazing WLB. The fact they are shopping him concerns me(is there some lingering injury?) but he would be unbelievable. He gets it done all over the field, with sacks, tackles, tacklses for loss, and int's. We have some space to maneuver our cap # so this could be a possibility. I will hold off my true exhuberance until there is more credible evidence that he's being shopped. fdarugar
We should just wait it out until he gets cut. Sign him to a 3 year deal.
kevinklein
I'm looking at something else here: if the Chargers have lost Jamar Fletcher, and they're now shopping Sammy Davis around the league...they're going to abysmal at the CB position? Fletcher and Davis weren't tremendous CBs to begin with. My bet is that they'll draft one or two solid prospects to try and fill in.
Slateman
If he's cut, I want the Skins to competively bid for him. A natural MLB who can play well in coverage and stuff the run. I WANT HIM
Oldskool
this isnt credible. According to several sources on the net, the Chargers are about $25m under the $109m cap. They dont cut productive players due to cap issues, for the above reason. They only cut players due to age factor (see Seau) or lack of production (see Alexander). shotstoppa
Not to rain on this whole parade, but the man is 33 years old and is a middle linebacker. After what Lemar Marshall did for us last year, I think we owe it to him to let him stay in the middle. I think the draft is undoubtedly the way to go on linebackers... coach 'em up! FLSKINSFAN
He's a 33 yr. old lb, that can still play at a high level. Also, Dale Lindsey is familiar with him from SD. Lindsey was the DC there for a year or two, Edwards would be a natural fit here.

Like Taylor Jacobs for example. true - but I've always assumed (never had the fortitude to check) that we aren't paying Jacobs, Farris, etc. too much.....are we paying them much more than the minimum (ie. the cost that the lowest level of replacement player)... kingarthur65
I live in San Diego and I can tell you that the local media hasnt even hinted at this. None of this story makes sense. Donnie is born and raised right here in Charger country I don't see any way they get rid of a local hero. Chargers have plenty of cap space and even if they didnt why would they cut sammy davis and his paltry 460k? I call total BS on this story. MumboSauce
Yeah I can't see any reason why they'd let a player of that caliber go. He's an awesome player. Even if they did, could we even afford him? not likely.

Must be San Diego's version of Petie Queen forcasting doom and gloom where there is none. Donnie Edwards would be a great pickup but it ain't going to happen.
