tmuten
I heard on Sports Rise this morning that he is visiting this weekend. They said he hasn't put on pads in four years, but I think he could be alright. He's got do some squats though, because he's got some chicken legs. rvan1
eh, why? 4 years is a lot of time out of the game.

herrmag
Being Mason alum I'd love to see him signed. However, I can't possibly imagine that he could make this team (or any team, for that matter). He isn't just big, he's fat. Granted, he's pretty quick, but I don't think he's strong enough right now to be a TE. I guess if he really trains over the next few months there is a possibility he could get picked up, but I don't see anyone drafting him, least of all the Redskins. ptimeskins-11
I hope this doesn't happen. I'm a Tar Heel fan. It would be hard to pull for him. What was the Pitt. basketball players name who tried out for TE last season? I cannot remember his name.

ouvan59
I wouldn't hold my breath on Jai Lewis being the next Antonio Gates. Gates went to Michigan State on a football scholarship. He transferred after MSU changed head coaches and the new one wouldn't let him play basketball. Gates is considerably faster and quicker than Lewis although Lewis is bigger. HailYeah
no harm in working him out. I find this humorous though.
More Complete
We are not the only ones looking at him. I've heard there are a few other teams interested as well. If he can get in shape and learn quick, he could make it in the NFL.

pvkeeper19
He looks more like an offensive lineman than a tight end. Antonio Gates has a much more athletic build, which is why he has such an advantage over other tight ends, and over defensive players. Jai Lewis can't rely on superior athleticism to get by until he learns the NFL game. Also, I wouldn't be too excited about a guy who hasn't touched a football since high school. triple569
The talk that I've heard is that he would be a better DE than a TE.
Thirtyfive2seven
I really think that we should start a rule here in the forums. Check it out: If you post a 'rumor' thread you have to post your home telephone number if you don't post a link. Too bad we have no way of knowing to whom the phone number belongs. Otherwise this would be a stellar idea. Sigh.

Jethrodsp
Id rather the skins start talking to Glen Davis if he is a senior. Hell, even if he isnt, id rather have him than Jai Lewis.
Sailskipper
Why do we need another TE? WE have Chris Cooley to catch passes and Christen Fauria to be an extra blocker. We also have Robert Johnson and Callen Powell as backups should we need them. Lets save the roster spots for players we need.
RedskinsSuperBowl21
jai lewis is extremely fast and light on his feet for his size and he as HUGE hands.....he is drawing attention from many teams teelers | Team remains interested in J. Lewis Wed, 5 Apr 2006 21:18:11 -0700 Joe Bendel, of the Tribune-Review, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping George Mason basketball player Jai Lewis on their radar. The Steelers already have gotten a first-hand look at the athletic Lewis. "Basically, I have a great opportunity to make somebody's roster in the NFL," said Lewis, the hulking, 6-foot-7, 275-pound center. "People are saying my better option is to go play football." Lewis has not given up on playing professional basketball yet. Lewis is in Portsmouth, Va., to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational, a four-day showcase for NBA hopefuls. Most feel if Lewis attempts to play in the NFL, it would be as a tight end. Jaguars | Team checks out J. Lewis Sun, 19 Mar 2006 09:54:14 -0800 Mike Potter, of the Herald-Sun, reports George Mason basketball C Jai Lewis said the Jacksonville Jaguars have checked him out while he has played basketball. As noted earlier, the 6-7, 275-pounder could wind up in the NFL down the road.
TheLongshot
Jai Lewis is probably going to sit on someone's Practice Squad. It is possible that he could be a pretty decent NFLer at some point, but I feel he's probably going to be a project of some sort. I probably wouldn't expect him to be Antonio Gates, but he certainly seems to have potential. Jason

Mr. S
if he goes through the training program for football a few months, he could fix a lot of his strength problems. Couple that with his athleticism, and he could make an impact. I wouldnt mind signing him on the practice squad for a year.
Jofizz
He has nothing to lose. You never know, he may be a cheap pick up for the practice squad that could turn into something more in a few years.
grhqofb5
Instead of getting in shape, maybe he should get really fat and try to be a lineman. I always wondered how Shaq would do in the NFL. If you told Jai Lewis to eat all the hamburgers and cheeseburgers he wanted, i'm sure he could hit 325+ by september.
