Redskins | Wynn still mending; probably won't start

Sun, 9 Apr 2006 06:34:56 -0700

David Elfin, of the Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins DL Renaldo Wynn (arm) is still mending from the broken right forearm in suffered in the 2005 NFL playoffs. He can't do any weight room work on his upper body, which he typically spun as a positive "because it allows me to work more on my legs, and that's where your power comes from. My main goal is to be 100 percent for training camp." Redskins' director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer said Wynn's forearm is healing well and he could be on the field for minicamp in June. When Wynn returns to the field, he will probably find himself as a backup player now that the team has signed DE Andre Carter.

The article where KFFL got its report from.

http://washingtontimes.com/sports/20060409-010141-1216r.htm

When the Washington Redskins celebrated their first playoff victory since 1999 on Jan.?7, left defensive end Renaldo Wynn was in a Tampa, Fla., hospital after sustaining a broken right forearm in the first quarter. Washington lost the next week at Seattle with Wynn in street clothes and missing the first game of his four Redskins seasons.

Then last month, the Redskins signed free agent defensive end Andre Carter to a six-year, $30?million contract.

Wynn could have gotten angry or taken a "woe is me" approach, but that's not in his upbeat nature.

"We were already rotating a lot before we signed Andre," Wynn said yesterday. "I'll go to camp with the mentality that I'm still the starter, but I know I'm going to get a lot of snaps whether I start or not."

Carter at 262 can't play 50 snaps at DE in the 4-3. Wynn is going to get his fair share of time in 2006, both at DE and as a rusher at DT.

The Redskins are well set for 2006 with Wynn and Evans as the rotation players.

I am hoping we can find someone of this quality to backup the OL.

Starting means very little really, especially on DL where so much rotation happens. Wynn is a great playr for the Skins to have as he can play pretty much any spot on the line. I recall a couple of times last season where Williams used a 3-4 look or just 3 down linemen in a nickle/DB heavy look and Wynn was lined up over the center like a nose tackle.

You dont sign a guy to a 30 million dollar contract to not start.

Antwaan Randle El?

Anyway, I agree, Wynn is a great fit in a rotation. He can play inside on passing downs, or outside on running downs. I hope we keep him around...he will certainly have to restructure before the 2007 season if he wants to stay, but for this season I really want him out there.

When people complain about all the multiple posts on here, I've always wanted to suggest that people should just go to the KFFL site for info instead of coming here. But then I realized that if I posted the link to KFFL, about 10K people would post wires from that site to get the self-gratification that "they were the first" to post the news.

LOL!

Carter lost weight to play OLB...he will be more than 262 by Week 1...

I can definately see Wynn in the rotation as a situational DT in passing situations as well as rotating in and out of the LE spot with Daniels. Both Daniels and Wynn are natural Left ends... while Evans can back up Carter at the RE position.

I like our defensive line. I'd like to see another DT in the rotation but with ends that can also move inside it shouldn't matter much.

simply a ridiculous article.. all of williams def linemen are going to rotate. it will keep them gresh and it will play to their strngths. having wynn in on passing downs has never made sense. same with carter on obvious short yardage rushing downs..

we have demetric evans to mix into the games as well.. same with killings.

they are all going to get plenty of downs.
