Dblaze1119
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/14298985.htm Dolphins trying to sign Arrington BY JASON COLE AND CHRISTINA HOAG Knight Ridder Newspapers MIAMI - Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Saturday the team is trying to sign free agent linebacker LaVar Arrington despite lengthy, ongoing negotiations. ``We're trying,'' Saban said after being asked about Arrington during a Q&A session with fans at a Dolphins season-ticket sales function at Dolphin Stadium. The hang-up, Saban indicated, is money. ``We're trying to get a deal that would satisfy him as well as work for us,'' said Saban before explaining some related salary-cap issues. Arrington, who regularly visits South Florida, has expressed a strong interest in playing for the Dolphins. The New York Giants and Cincinnati also have expressed interest in him. However, Arrington's agents, brothers Carl and Kevin Poston, also have indicated that they would like to get a deal for Arrington that would include more than $10 million in guaranteed money. Arrington, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, bought his way out of his contract with Washington after last season. Arrington clashed with Redskins coaches and was pulled from the starting lineup at one point. However, Saban said he envisions the talented Arrington working well as an outside linebacker opposite Jason Taylor. ``He's an outstanding player who could line up and complement the things we do with our outside linebacker rush,'' Saban said. jrockster21
I'm sorry, its not that I like/dislike Arrington, but that was a stupid comment...Just... ... (EDIT: Just re-read your comment, DW, and it seems as if it could be a pro-Arrington comment...sorry if that is the case!) I agree. DW -- no need for that type of comment. It just makes you look like a hater. Lavar was and will always will be one of my favorite Redskins. If his knee heals 100%, he has at least 5 more years to look forward to. Its almost as if you're hoping he retires in two years...it would be a shame if he does. I look forward to seeing Arrington highlights on Sportscenter for years...hopefully in a Phins uniform and not Giant blue. Let's get it straight: the reason for Arrington being persona non grata in DC is the Postons, not LA himself. The Postons are the reason for all this garbage, the reason why his contract was in dispute, and are the reason LA is no longer a Redskin. You're kidding yourself if you think GW didn't want LA on his defense. Any DC in the league would want a talent like LA on their defense, overpursueing or not. By forfeiting 4.4 million dollars, the Postons have priced him out of a lot of team's ranges, and he may end up losing millions of dollars this season. I for one wish him well, and don't understand the hatred for him exhibited on this board. Good luck, Lavar. You still have fans in DC.
hanster
You don't understand the hatred for arrington on this board because apparantley you are lying to yourself and trying to imagine a scenerio that fits your admiration for lavar. The bottom line is I for one don't know how in the world you chose him as one of your favorite Redskins (wanna be). TRUE REDSKINS DON'T GIVE BACK MONEY TO LEAVE US!!! AND THAT BEING SHORTLY AFTER HE STATED THAT HE WOULD RETIRE!!! HE IS A GROWN MAN, THE POSTONS ARE BUMS BUT HE MADE THE FINAL DECISION TO LEAVE US!! AND THEN TO GO AND CONSIDER THE giants THAT IS LOUD AND CLEAR!! TRUE REDSKINS WOULD NEVER CONSIDER THIS!! PUT IT THIS WAY, IF YOU COULD HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT DARRELL GREEN WOULD GO TO THE giants THEN THAT WOULD ADD UP. BUT WE KNOW THAT DARRELL WOULD NEVER CONSIDER IT!!!! PEOPLE GET CAUGHT UP "AH! IT'S BUISENESS" OR "THE POSTONS MADE HIM DO IT" BULLCRAP, I THOUGHT AT ONCE UPON A TIME HE WAS A REDSKIN BUT OH!!! DID REALITY SLAP ME IN THE FACE!!! LA got some bad advice from the Postons. That's it. You can like him or dislike him for that, entirely your perogative. I think JRock and others are upset b/c people are saying that Lavar is a crappy player. That's just not true. He was overhyped when he came here, he was not, and will not ever be the next LT. But he is a very, very good football player. Is he worth the money he is demanding? Probably not, but maybe, depending on what your needs are. You can say you won't follow him anymore b/c of the way he left, because he's not a true Redskin, and that's fine. That's your judgement and your opinion. But don't say he isn't a good player b/c of that.
Mr. S
for someone who is as bad as you make him sound, he has yet to say anything bad about the team. he still wishes us the best and wants to remain a part of his Maryland community no matter where he plays. This was from his interview yesterday.
Nighthawk
Before the Redskins picked Arrington with the 2nd pick in the 2000 draft, I was drooling over the prospect of our getting him. I wanted him over Courtney Brown and compared to him, he's had a better career. I went to the PSU website everyday to watch video of his greatest plays. I was thrilled when we took him and then I started reading that he was a great athlete but that he didn't have the smarts to make it big in the NFL. That he was a freelancer because he couldn't or wouldn't understand the play book. That he was uncoachable because of it and as time went on that became more and more obvious. Add to the fact that Arrington never meet a microphone he didn't like. He knew all the right things to say and he would. I love the Redskins fans, I'll do anything for the fans, I want to be a Redskin for life, blah, blah, blah. Then he'd turn around and say something to the contrary. It was as if he went threw mood swings and depending on his mood, he would say something positive or something negative. I got tired of his act years ago after the whole, "The Redskins cheated me of $6 million dollars." That was the beginning of the end. Then he finally drove in the last nail into the coffin when he got hurt and then tried to come back early, got hurt again and then blamed the Redskins for trying to rush him back. That was it as far as I was concerned. Then he come back this year. He's overweight and slow and he wasn't LaVar Arrington anymore. His biggest thing was his athletic ability and his speed. Well, he doesn't have that speed anymore. If you opened your eyes and watched him, especially at the end of the year, he was overweight and slow. You can't be a freelancing OLB if you're overweight and slow. He may be able to go somewhere and compliment the other players a team may have on defense, but I agree with the other guy, if he does end up signing with another team, I don't give him two years. That will be enough time for his mouth and his actions to get him out of there.
bnacpa
Lavar should have dumped the Postons after they admitted that they never read the final contract that they had him sign. I think he is very very loyal and that is a admirable quality, but at the same time, it resulted in him having to choose sides and he picked the wrong one. On top of all this, the franchise gave him too much love and put him on a pedesatal while they were playing revolving door with the coaches. When Gibbs came in everything changed to the love being about Gibbs and the team and not individual players. Lavar never learned to adjust. He hampered his situation by going to the press last year instead of just stfu and working hard to impress his coaches. Yes, it is documented that he had problems with Dale Lindsey, but we don't know the full story there, so I won't begin to speculate on that. Overall Lavar is a very talented player, but he got caught up in the glamor of the game and the media and the Skins organization is partly responsible for putting into that. At the end of the day, though, he stated he wanted to be a Redskin and hopefully retire a Redskin and he was given a chance to stay with the team and help the team that he claimed to love. He did not choose that, regardless of what advise he got from his agents (which he could have dismissed at any point for neglect and chose not too). Then his agent got suspended for 2 years for his neglect. Arrington is a very talented player, but he acts like a big baby and I am glad that he had the chance for a fresh start and the chance to see what his true market value is, instead of his overinflated sense of worth. Tom [Giants fan]
This was a dumb and obviously stated article. The Dolphins along with the Jaguars, Giants, and Bengals are all still trying to sign Lavar Arrington although I don't think Cincy is as interested. What is the hang up for all these teams? Money! Duh!
bulldog
Has a player that never won anything ever received more press coverage in the NFL? Seriously, here is a guy whose best season in the NFL was 2001 and who was a spectator for much of the time Gregg Williams has worked to improve this defense in 2004 and 2005. I have nothing against Arrington seeking money (hey, it's not the Skins money for a change, right?), but any team would be crazy to give a guy $10 million guaranteed having suffered through the knee injuries he has the past couple of years. A 'fair' bonus for Arrington in my mind would be somewhere in the $5 million range given the risks.
jrockster21
Mindless drivel First of all, try not to post in all caps. Its annoying and hard to read, and against board rules. Second of all, would you consider Art Monk a true Redskin? He played for the Eagles. I just don't understand the blind hatred for Lavar. Yeah, he overpursues at times, but the list of NFL linebackers who have never overpursued a play is extremely short. Lavar has a several good seasons left in him. I think he'll eventually sign a multi-year deal with the first year being incentive laden, and options to void the contract after one year. It will be a risk, but I think its the only way he's going to get close to the kind of money he wants. :whoknows:

Boy, I love grammar police. LaVar's going to excel whereever he goes. Wish him the best with that. I don't care where he goes. Hell, if I was him, I'd be demanding a lot of money, too. Truth is, in GW's system, we're fine without him.
