stwasm
For those of you who may not know, Andre Collins was drafted by the Redskins in 1990 and started at weak side linebacker for the team that won Super Bowl XXVI. He helped organized today's final round of auditions for the Washington Redskins cheerleaders -- pics of which can be seen in The Tailgate. Anyway, I had a chance to talk to him today and he was a really nice guy. Attached is a pic of us.

I mean, i dont know if i necessarily believe in higher powers and all that, but someone up there DEFINITELY likes you man. Props to you.

Chrisbob74
Very cool, Andre was a nice player for the Skins in his time, I didn;t like how when Norv came on board they seemed to dump the LB's and replaced them when the team had more pressing needs. Collins and Gouviea were both dumped way too early IMO and while MArcus Patton was a nice player as a replacement Rod Stephens sucked! How come Andre was there, does he have some kind of involvement with the Skins now or does he just still live in the area? What's he up to now? sydshobob
Not sure what he's doing full-time, but he helped organize the final round of the Redskins Cheerleader tryouts. As long as his present career doesn't involve tackling anybody he should be okay. He got real bad at that after the SB, but I liked him up til then. TC4
That's cool!!!! I got a DVD of a Redskins game from the 1991 Super Bowl season against the Falcons at RFK where the Redskins blew them out 56-17, and late in the game Andre Collins picks off a pass and carries it back for the last Redskins TD And the QB who threw that pass? None other than Brett Farve

The Sisko
I can't remember where I read this but the last I heard, Collins was working at Arlington Hospital as an administrator. I think he ran the E.R. if memory serves me correctly. There was another ex-Redskins project guy working down there that I did get a chance to meet. I suppose Collins may have hooked him up. Imagine my surprise to find out about Collins after I left Arlington Hospital to move down here:doh: I always liked him and was somewhat surprised that we dumped him when we did. I always saw him as an adequate though unspectacular player.
Teller
Good for you stwasm! You're like friggin' Superman dude. Always in the right place at the right time. I always liked Collins, and was sorely disappointed to see him go to Cincy. Now, I have a question. I have a vague memory of the Redskins playing somebody (I can't for the life of me remember who). Anyway, the snap was botched, and the holder tried to throw a pass. Collins picked it off and ran it all the way back...all to be awarded 1 point. Does anybody else remember that? Can you refresh my memory with anymore details?

He bobbles the ball for a bit with the receiver clining to the side of his jersey then takes it to the house! Good stuff.

What's funny about that play is that, while watching the game, I had Sonny, Frank and Sam on the radio. Sonny had commented not a few minutes before the play that the Falcons "should just down the ball."
topdogbran
Andre is a great guy. I went to a Caps game with him a few people from work back in the early 90's. It was the last year of his contract because we talked about the possibility of leaving the skins. Glad to see he's still involved!

The defensive team never can score on a try. As soon as defense gets possession or the kick is blocked or a touchdown is not scored, the try is over. :logo:
