cowboyuptx
With 6 out of their first 9 on the road, including a 3 game road trip (Car, Was, Ari), the percentages aren't in Dallas' favor. We'll see...... (Rick Gosselin - The Dallas Morning News) Rick Gosselin: Three-game road trip bad sign for Cowboys http://www.cowboysplus.com/buzzbar/s...n.e37e6a4.html 10:32 PM CDT on Thursday, April 6, 2006 The Cowboys aspire to be a playoff team in 2006. But their schedule may not allow them to play on into January. The NFL schedule could prevent Chicago, Houston, Miami and Philadelphia from reaching the postseason as well. Those five teams have been assigned three-game road trips in 2006, and history says that's a death knell for playoff hopes. The NFL has sent 92 teams on three-game road trips since 1990 and only 32 survived to make the playoffs. More recently, 21 teams embarked on three-game road trips in the 2000 decade, and only six have qualified for the playoffs. The longer a team stays on the road, the more weary the body and legs become. Of the 92 teams that have taken three-game trips in the last 16 years, 63 lost more games than they won. Six teams went 3-0 and 23 teams went 2-1 – but 48 teams went 1-2 and 15 more went 0-3. Three-game trips are an unfair scheduling quirk, and the NFL knows it. The league had been trying to wean those three-game trips off the schedule. There were a staggering eight such trips assigned in 2000, and only two of the teams reached the playoffs. It's the first time the Cowboys have been assigned a three-game trip since 1992. The Cowboys went 2-1 on that trip and 13-3 on the season en route to their first Super Bowl championship of the decade. So a three-game trip is not impossible to overcome. But that 1992 Dallas team had young superstars Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, plus the best offensive line in the NFL and the league's No. 1-ranked defense. This Dallas team doesn't. Zazzaro703
This is great..... Not one team in our division facing this challenge.... but two. Not to mention that the 3 road games the eagles have are 3 divisional road games. What a dagger for the eagles. And if that wasnt good enough, we get a three game homestand in the middle of our home stretch playoff run. Maybe we do have some fans in the upper NFL management. Zazzaro703
Thats the great thing. Its not really an excuse. You cant fight history. Eagles fans got a taste of that last year when everyone but the titans that lost the superbowl failed to make the playoffs the next year (the last 7-10 years). TheSchwartz
Of course it could be said thatthose teams that had a 3-game road trip weren't destined to make the playoffs no matter how they lined up the schedule. This is a much bigger deal if NFL teams stayed out of town for the whole week. Getting tired from playing road games is the ultimate copout. The only thing that should be said is the fact that it's hard to win on the road in teh NFL. And as momentum and confidence are a big thing in all athletic endeavors, having not only the physical hurdle but also the mental hurdle puts teams at a disadvantage. Also, losing 3 road games isn't uncommon in one season, so if a team winds up losing 3 road games in a row that could then affect their morale/confidence heading into their next home game. But to tihnk that these athletes are some how broken down because they had to spend one night in a hotel and one night on an airplane and then have 5 days until the next game, seems rather ludicrous to me. TimmySmith
Don't forget that Dallas gets home from the 3 gamer to play Indy and Tampa, then goes to NY to play the G-men. That schedule is a bear.
redskinss
this is a pretty stupid argument based on statistics. what there saying is, about 30% of the teams that have three game road trips make the playoffs. tell me again what percentage of nfl teams make the playoffs each year. Abshir
I believe that Dallas will implode sooner than usual ... TO and Parcells will feud.... and Bledsoe will get injured in like week 2.... Sorry, I know its sad to say .... but the Cowboys will definitely be the worst Cowboys team of all time. Put that in your memory bank... Dallas will go 4-

THEHEREAFTER
Every year you have suprise teams and dissapointments. It's hard to say who will be tough and anticipate injuries etc. The schedule is what it is. Eight home... eight away. Time to play ball.

Yeah, I kinda thought that too when I read it. He makes it seem like Dallas is doomed and I thought y'all might enjoy that perspective.
WeownU
I don't like it when people get thier panties in a wad about the schedule. The only thing I don't like is a bye in week 3. And thats just the luck of the draw. Home games, away games, who cares. There's 16 games to play, who gives a damn when and where you play them
shawn
but that means 5 of the last 7 games are at home. teams make playoff push in the second half of the season. Though I don't like how the schedule starts. I like how it ends.

Now here's a sentiment I can agree with wholeheartedly, there's no crying in football either! The schedule always works for some, against some, but it doesn't determine how you're gonna do. Nice post Hereafter, you get an :applause: and a cookie Eight home... eight away- unless you're the '05 Giants
bbuzz1962
This has become a league of parity. I don't see any so called easy games on any schedule this season. Look, any team can have a great day. Too look ahead, or by any team in this league is dangerous. Last years playoff picture was proof that every game is important, and you better bring your A game each and every week. I would say that our ROAD is every bit as tough as anyones in this league. There are no gimmes in this league anymore. Paul Tagliabue did one thing well before he retired, and that was to set up a league that was well balanced, and would give us all good games every week.
