heatman28
Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd has signed the one-year, restricted free agent contract that was offered to him by the San Francisco 49ers prior to the March 12 trade with the Redskins. This means what exactly???

ChiefPowhatan17
It means that as of right now that contract transfers to the Redskins, but We will have him on a long term contract before the season starts. You don't want him to become a free agent after one year, since we gave up picks for him.
heatman28
I got that from Redskins.com Sounds to me like he signed the 49ers tender but it was prior to the trade with the Redskins so I'm really not understanding what they are saying here. jimster
he was an RFA with the 9ers - he agreed to their tender offer just to be traded - he will most likely sign a new deal with us.

losalmon
Players technically have to be under contract in rder to be traded. Usually there's a stipulation in the contract that voids it if there is no trade.
heatman28
I guess since he was restricted he had to sign the tender offer in order to be traded here. That's what I get out of it anyhow...
skinsfan.uk
I figure the Skins will sign him to a multi year dear soon. I presume he had to sign the RFA tender before sorting a longer deal out...
fdarugar
Honestly, I think we will wait it out with Lloyd to see how he produces so we can cover our own asses if he, is putting up good #2 WR numbers we start negotiating with him. If he is getting outplayed by ARE and is a bust we could just let him become a FA. I think the first option is more likely though.
heatman28
Who said anything about Lloyd being the #2 WR? He has Patten and Randle El to compete with let alone whoever else gets brought in.
IronMike
Competition and Insurance. He will have to compete for a starting job. Randall El and Patten will be tough competition for him. He provides great depth. It is also insurance against injuries. If he cannot stand out against the competition, then he will be gone after one year. If he fails to perform, and falls flat on his face, then he will have a difficult time securing a big-boy free agent contract. Pressure will be on him to perform, as it will be on the other WRs. Competition has that effect. Some players cannot handle the competition. We will soon see if Lloyd can handle the pressure.

inmate running the asylum
What does it mean? It means Lloyd cant sign any other contracts this year at least with another team and that he becomes an UFA in 2007, if we dont sign him to a new long term contract. It all depends on our cap situation at the moment and what was promised to him when he agreed to the trade. We may have promised him a new contract when we lower our cap by this summer -- like we did with Santana Moss last year. Then again he may get a new contract in a few weeks. :whoknows:

We gave up a #3 & #4 pick for him. What does that add up to in terms of a multi-year deal? If he gets off to a fantastic start with only a one year tender, we may not be able to afford him. I would like to see the Skins sign him for at least three years before the beginning of the season. We do have a huge investment in him and I believe he has the talent to be our #2. I also believe management considers him our #2 receiver. :2cents:
