Renegade7
:yawnee: Everyone's entitled to their opinion. That's what message boards are for. My opinion, Washington is consistent, Lavar isn't. That alone makes him better then Lavar.

indaslums
ok Heres My List1.Ray Lewis 2.Brian Urlacher 3.Zach Thomas 4.Johnathan Vilma 5.Lavar Arrington 6.Takeo Spikes 7.Derrick Brooks 8.Al Wilson 9.Joey Porter 10.Marcus Washington Your list needs some serious work. Ray Lewis is not the best anymore. Urlacher probally is number 1. Lavar might be 10 but he hasn't done anything in over 2 years and couldn't learn our defense. (this is if you are looking at the whole package). Porter should be higher.
Enter Apotheosis
Marcus Washington is better NOW than Lavar Arrington. Pre-injury Lavar is arguably much better than Marcus Washington ever has been... of course, that assesment disregards how well LA fit in/got along with the Skins and his coaches coaches. Thinking Skins
Renegade, you're so right. Its easy to argue facts, but arguing about who you think is a better player, especially at a position like LB where its not necessarily judged by sacks or tackles or ints, people are going to disagree. Now, my opinion on this is kinda similar to Tampa Bay back in the 90's when they had Hardy Nickerson and Derrick Brooks. Nickerson was the guy who everybody loved, but the better LB was Derrick Brooks, and he got his due respect when Nickerson left. Hopefully Washington gets his respect. (But being that he's IN Washington and his name is Washington, he's got two strikes against him, so I wouldn't count on it. Maybe he can use it to inspire him like Gilbert Arenas). DatBoySk
well my opinion is Ray lewis is the best excluding last season when he got hurt he is still the hardest hitting linebacker in the league

RDSKNfaithfull
marcus washington is better than lavar arrington. When Lavar is healthy this statemant is pretty far from the truth. also Antonio Peirce should be considered and one dimensional Trotter is a run defense in himself. The Rookie in Seattle will be on that list pretty soon as well.

bryanyoung
So where does Shawn Merriman fit in? He is no lower than 5th in my book
Santana_Fan
I would add Julian Peterson, Tedy Bruschi, and Keith Brooking. I don't know where they'd fit into the list, but I think the are some of the best.

Renegade7
So where does Shawn Merriman fit in? He is no lower than 5th in my book After one season? At least Washington has done it for two here in DC, but Merriman just got in the league. Lets see what he does this year, because players have had great early years then straight dissapeared. Poof, never to be seen from or heard from ever again.
NWSkins
Arrington is a great player Washington is a great player yes, marcus washington has put up better stats recently, but c'mon guys, Arrington never stepped on the field! If your comparing talent, arrington is THE physical specimen. He is big, fast, and hits hard. But Marcus Washington is pretty talented himself and one of the most enthusiastic people i've ever seen. You really can't put the two up against each other and tell me who's better. It doesn't work like that. It never does for any position in the NFL. Maybe in sport like track where there's a definite winner, but not in football.....

I do appreciate the love for MW...I love him as well. However, with a league wide prospective in mind....we are talking about the best in the NFL. You have a point that Merriman has only been in the league just one year, but compare his 2005 stats to MW. Now, can you provide examples of players that won either defensive or offensive rookie of the year and simply went poof? I, for one, think that Merriman only having one year in the NFL and doing what he was able to do is more of a strength than a weakness. This kid has the potential to become an LT, Ray Lewis, etc. The kicker is....I am not even a Terp fan.
