Cdowwe
I have been a die hard Skins fan for life. But its time to face the cold hard truth. I recently met a female who is native American, and she opened me eyes. The name Redskins is not only offensive, but everytime people hear it we are reminded how badly we treated the Native Americans. We stole their land, massacred thousands, and yet Snyder and Co. still keep the name Redskins. I can not see how anyone can support a team that does this. This being said, Since this site is owned by Snyder, I wont be back. Thanks for the memories.

We didnt do anything. Hell I know I didnt do anything. The name has just as much meaning as you give it and it is not used in a negative way. He doesn't know how to answer that one. But I can understand the NAtive Americans but the past is the past get over it.
Ghost of
I thought the US was responsible for millions of native american deaths... Not really. Disease from population movements cannot be attributed to the US alone (that happened in South America and the Caribbean.) And there were only about 5 million (estimated) in North America so that would be kind of hard.

Jumbo
This is a serious issue. The seriosity can not be overstressed. Seriousness should not be subject to lame humor as it weakens the seriotude on the original intention. In such serio-socio-problemos, a respect for the seriousendiptity is a must. Please treat this manner with the seriosillitude it deserves.
WeownU
So if the redskins have to change thier name to be "politcally correct", where does it end? Raiders...........raped and pillaged.....change their name too Bears.............eat people..............change their name too Cowboys........carry guns, guns kill people.......change their name People need to get over it, its just a name and it only has meaning because other people attribute meaning to it. ddub52
I cant believe you even posted a thread on this. I hope this is an april fools joke. And just so you know, many of the original "Boston Redskins" were Native Americans. Them, and several other members of the organization at the time came up with that name. redskinss
Im sure when the skins were trying to think up a name they were going for the most offensive thing they could think of. I heard it was a toss up between the washington redskins and the washington s""theads.

The 12th Commandment
Geez, if one of you would undertake a study in the seriosology of the issue, you would find that the Nantokes had a lacross team in the area named the Redskins over 3,000 years ago. Of course in Nantokese the word is pronounced slightly differently - Tacrushacowbouy. They won the NAL (Native American League) East for 80 years in a row one stretch. We are only keeping the faith, my brothers! :point2sky HAIL!
TLusby
Is this thread serious? This guy is a fan? About 90% of the Indians feel that this term is an honor, but I guess they know their history. The term "Redskin" was derived from the red/blood like paint they put on their faces prior to battle. It's not a derogatory or racist term but a term used to describe a WARRIOR!
