fdarugar
From WP: The Redskins are believed to be pursuing San Diego cornerback Jamar Fletcher for their vacant nickel back spot. Fletcher, 26, is a former first-round pick of Miami who had one sack and one interception last year. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/14/AR2006031400957.html
IM A REDSKIN FAN
better than the Cowart rumours....as long as we dont give up much Im fine with this...
Never21Forgotten36
Man, I guess that means no Andre Dyson.....I got spoiled with all the huge signings over the last few days, the Collins and Cowart and Fletcher potential signings wouldnt really do much for me. bmw2301
Yeah this does sound better than Cowart.. We HAVE to sign at least one more CB, I think we need two more, but we'll see...

You gotta fill the holes somehow...Fletcher has got alot of untapped talent too, he could be a diamond in the rough. The Cowart thing makes absolutely no sense to me though. visionary
We might decide to sign both, and I don't think they would be bad. They would provide good depth. Flethcer is young and talented, and Cowart would provide some more veteran experiance among the young linebacking group, also he played for Williams for a while And is it me, or was the Fletcher bit just added a little while ago, after the rest? Oldskool
Oh god no! The secondary of the Bolts is the worst ive seen in pro football in a long time. If the Bolts dont have him on the team and havent tried to keep him, there IS a reason.
fdarugar
Well, Scouts Inc. doesnt think too highly of him... He has solid instincts and route awareness. He has some talent but there is something missing in his game. Though he does show a feel for playing his position, he will blow coverages (@ Oakland). He could do a better job of re-routing receivers aligned in the slot. He does not show very good top end or catch up speed. He will hold and grab in coverage because he does not trust his foot speed. He is an inconsistent tackler. He will get in poor tackling position. He lacks the height and size to be consistent on the island - he is not athletic enough to go up and take the ball away from the receiver.
terpfan
He's no Dyson but could make a solid nickel CB. Id be happy with this signing.
Never21Forgotten36
Yeah the Cowart thing makes about as much sense to me as Parcells calling the Saints coach telling him to sign Brees, when he actually needs a QB more than New Orleans. The more I think about it, I wouldnt have signed Collins so soon either, now that it looks like all we are going to get for Ramsey is a 7th rounder. We might as well keep him for the last year of his contract.

Oldskool
So in other words, he would replace Walt Harris Id rather keep Harris than this guy. Horrible! I really dont understand how he is still in the league and not playing in Europe or Canadia?

I don't know much about Fletcher, but I would suppose the difference is that he is older (by more than a few years) and banged up, not to mention not able to stay on the field for too long at one time. And I don't really know how bad Fletcher is just from one quote.

visionary
By the way, that one bit of info from the Post on Fletcher is not much to go on, for a rumor, especially since it is the first I've heard of. The Cowart thing may seem more credible actually, since they at least say that Vinny contacted his agent...but then again it doesn't sound as if Cowart was too interested. Either way, hopefully we will learn more about these and other possible moves tomrorow. I had expected the Redskins to add a CB in the draft though. (though is it possible that they view him as a safety, just reaching here) But maybe they will stick to getting o-linemen...hmmm.
RIDETHEWALRUS
Fletcher is still fairly young and does have a very good upside. He was not a good CB in San Deigo, but neither was their other 1st round CB, Quintin Jammer. There may be something about their system or the way they coach the secondary that holds guys back. I would be more than happy to go after this guy and see if he pans out. Springs is getting old and if lucky, Fletcher may be able to supplant him in a couple years. TheREALJBird
Well he's pretty young so that's a plus. I'd like to get Andre Dyson personally but any young CB with some upside will suffice
Enter Apotheosis
He'd make a good nickel corner. Definitely not our best option but a young, solid guy that will last us a few years.
SkinnedAussie
Everyone is entitled to post their thoughts and opinions, but in the end the only ones Fletcher needs to impress have the initials JG and GW. If Fletcher has attracted the interest of the coaching staff, he must have something we haven't seen yet. Trust Gibbs, trust Williams, trust Snyder. visionary
Hmmm, his stats aren't terribly impressive. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=2574 But who knows, maybe Williams and Gray can make him good. (maybe Gray sees him as a nice project)
