ChiefBigMeat
The Eagles held out as long as they could trying to engineer a trade for TO, but it never happened because everyone knew they would release him anyway, so why whould they give up anything for him? Teams know Ramsey is worth waaay more than a 7th round pick, but like with TO, they know they can just negotiate after the Redskins release him and not have to give up anything for him. Anyone who wants to sign him (even if they get him in a trade) will have to negotiate a new contract will him and his agent, so why should they give up anything for him? Yeah, its depressing, but in reality a 7th round pick right now is actually rather generous. Its sad, but its just NFL reality. I, for one, am glad Gibbs is showing that he doesn't play games with his players, so while its unfortunate I really don't think its the worst that could happen. Its just another sign that the 'Skins are headed in the right direction. :2cents:
Supreme Wu
Someone shed light for me - what would the hit be if the Skins did NOT cut Ramsey?

Pete
While I doubt it, if we can't deal Ramsey, I wonder if we could send him to NFL Europe. It worked well for Brad Johnson, and could increase his value a year from now. I don't know about cap implications, but with him under contract for 06, it might be an option we haven't looked at as fans. Just a thought......... ChiefBigMeat
I really think Gibbs has given ramsey his word to let him go to another team this season. Besides, this is the last year of his contract so trading him after this season isn't even an option.
Jumbo
It's a creative out-of-the-box idea, Pete. Though I can't imagine Pat being cool with such a move.

Interesting idea...although are there any limitations in regard to NFL Europe with playing time in the NFL? IE similiar to the practice squad requirements? Granted this won't happen with Ramsey, but did spark those questions to me.

cjbrown
There is always the possiblity that Ramsey could be dealt to a team because they do not want to loose him to another team and feel they may be in a better negotiating position if the trade for him. That is the real issue, does someone want him bad enough and are they afraid of loosing him. The skins would rather make sure they get what they need when they need it, some other teams are willing to wait or take their chances. I think they skins are this way when it comes to some of their own players that they believe they know well enough to judge their contractual worth acurately regardless of what the market pays. And if he could go to NFL Europe, you sign him to a 1 year deal at the end of their season, and then entertain trades for him. It's a creative out-of-the-box idea, Pete. Though I can't imagine Pat being cool with such a move. If he wants to play, and was told he is the starter there, a year in Europe might be hard to turn down. Like I said, I doubt it would happen, and don't know if it could.
WARLORD1863
There is a slight difference between the TO and Ramsey situation. One is a jerk and the other is a mediocre QB. But also the Redskins seem very eager to give up draft picks along with Ramsey to get a trade. And although it seems clear that Ramsey would like to go somewhere else, there isn't that incredibly hostile friction between coach-players-and player in question like in the TO case. Do I think that John Abraham might come out of a possible deal? That's a toss-up. It's very clear that the Jets need more depth in QB, but to give up Abraham even with a couple Redskin draft picks seems like an iffy situation for both the Jets and the Skins. I think Ramsey will be traded, but for whom or for what... I don't know. But I'm certain it won't reach the end of the line like in the TO situation.
