kmast000
Sorry if this has already been discussed but I was wondering if they were planing on playing Carter at Weakside LB and trying to purse Abraham to play opposite of Daniels? Any thoughts on this?
Leon Phelps
I think the Abraham deal is all but done after this signing of Carter. I think Carters ability will be best used as a linebacker in the 3-4 and a 4-3 end. Thos blitzing 3rd downs that we have become accustomed to under Greg Williams will hopefully present an opportunity for Carter to show his value to this team. He's not a small man and that doesn't seem to hinder his speed. With the scheme we run, I think he and archuletta will provide plenty of toughness to the D. Teams trying to run away from ST will have to deal with Arch, Washington and Carter now. Hopefully no more of those Tomlinson-punch-you-into-the-ground-in-overtime stiff arms any more from out last line of defense in the backfield. ImmortalDragon
He wasn't that successful as a 3-4OLB, I don't think he'll start at OLB here.

If we did get Abraham, it would probably be at the expense of giving up next years 1st round pick and Ramsey.

Fatty P For The Pulitzer
Abraham is not coming here. I thought the Post made it fairly clear that Abraham was a backup plan if we didn't get Carter. As for Carter, he is a DE. He is NOT an OLB in a 4-3 scheme, and did not have a great year last year as an OLB in a 3-4 scheme. That was also his first year in his college and pro career where he wasn't a DE. I'm not sure where people are getting this idea that he will be playing fulltime OLB. He will be listed as a DE, but will line up wherever he can best get to the QB. Williams will not be putting Carter in a situation where he will be dropping in coverage, except maybe in all-out blitz packages.

Waleo32
He's better at DE. They moved him to LB to utilize him as a speed rusher in the 3-4.

That's because he played OLB in SF's full-time 3-4 scheme. Just like Ware in Dallas, and Suggs in Bmore. We don't run a full-time 3-4, so Carter is a DE, just like he was every other year of his career.
kmast000
Lots of reports on Abraham possibly coming to the skins now. So if we do land Abraham how do we fit him, Carter, Daniels, and Wynn in all at DE. I really get the feeling that Carter will play LB to fill the hole Lavar made. Hail_Skinz
Has anyone heard an "official" press release about the signing of Carter? I haven't heard anything except he "reportedly" has signed. Just seems a little strange to me...especially coupled with this whole Abraham/Ramsey deal. There's definitely something a brewin'
Fatty P For The Pulitzer
IF, and that's a big if, we still somehow trade for Abraham, then Carter, Abraham, and Daniels will rotate at DE, and Winn would provide DT/DE depth. If either Abraham or Carter were brought in to play OLB, it would be Abraham, as he has been more succesful in the OLB pass rusher role in a 3-4 D. I still don't see any way we get Abraham, we need the cap space and few remaining draft picks for depth players.

BG4SHEEZEE
so if he plays DE who plays OLB? Khary Campbell? do we move Marshall back out?

hailskins26
play him where he is best suited- porobably DE even though we need a LB. Madden has him listed as ROLB.
Bizkiteer
Carter will not play LB, he'll play DE. He only played at the LB spot last year and it wasn't that successful. I think many forget that Daniels also plays DT. If the 'Skins get Abraham, Carter and and JA will be the end's while Daniels rotates between DT and DE on plays. If you watched Gibbs on Total Access, after they mentioned geting Cater...Gibbs saod he really couldn't comment on the deals that were currently going on due to the sensitivty. They are in talks for JA! Someone mentioned that Wynn was listed at DE, wasn't he cut? Did I miss something where he signed back w/ us?

I think he has some experience playing DT too, like Daniels, so he has a little more versatility than one might think. I think that Carter will play OLB on a 1st and 2nd down basis, then maybe slide down to DE on 3rd down or on passing downs. With two starters already on the roster at DE, I would hope that there is more is in store for someone with a contract like Carter's than to just play on third downs. 9_to_42_td
49er fans are pissed. They are saying that they only won 2 games last year and we are pillaging their lineup. Carter had injuries one year, but other than that he is very fast and very athletic.
PlayAction
49er fans don't need to be pissed. They got a 3rd and future 4th round pick for Lloyd and have replaced him with Antonio Bryant. If Carter wasn't really suited to play OLB in the 3:4 then the 49ers were right in letting him go.
PlayAction
I think in order to get Abraham we would have to give up next years first round, Ramsey, and maybe this years 2nd rounder. Which is a little steep. Jets are asking for a first round pick so why would you offer so much more? Often you can get the player for less than the initial asking price. This year the bottom half of the first round is supposed to be equal in quality to the second round. So if the Jets got a second round pick plus Ramsey that would seem to be more than fair. In fact, Jets ought to pony up the conditional pick in 2007 based upon Ramsey's performance.
SkinsNatsFan
The Redskins just made an extra $10M in cap space... you don't need that for 2nd round picks and a few depth players Within the last day or so? I missed that. Definitely adds fuel to the fire.
