Big Weirdo
I don't know anything about cars. Anything at all. But whenever it rains my car has trouble starting. Once it starts up it is guranteed to stall out at least once. I'm assuming the car is just being flooded with too much water but I really have no idea. Is there anyway to prevent this at all? The car is a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta with a standard transmission. It's black (because this was pertinent.)
Leonard Washington
probably an electrical gremlin. i'd check the grounds, bat terminals, tuneup parts and look for exposed wires near the alt.

Mickalino
The car is a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta with a standard transmission. It's black (because this was pertinent.) Paint it a different color. This will resolve the starting and stalling problem. But be sure to paint it burgundy & gold.
PokerPacker
i know its a stretch, but cars won't start when they have water in the tank, right? any possibility water finds a way in?
Pete
More then likely, you have a cracked distributor cap, or it's not sitting properly on the distributor, bad seal. Moisture will make the spark from the ing rotor arc all over the place, causing the plugs not to get spark properly. It's not an uncommon problem, more so on old cars. That'e where I would look first.

Do you know how much something like that would cost? Or is it easily fixable? Like I said I have no idea how cars work or where parts are located (except for the obvious ones). Thanks to all who responded. Even if you did take a jab at me for being an Eagles fan. ****s.

Don't know VW pricing but Distributor cap and rotor should be under 30 bucks. That is the likely cause, as Pete pointed out. I'd go ahead and do plug wires and plugs while your at it. Mark The Homer
I agree with Pete. Whenever I take my Nova in, the owner of the shop gathers all his mechanics around my car to take a look at history. Most of them have never seen a carbuerator before.
