krausko2
After the cuts of the five players earlier today and the re-signing of Rock, has there been any news on how much cap space we have? I read somewhere that it's around 7 1/2 million but wasn't sure if that was accurate. And I'm guessing all those 'restructures' were all contingent on the CBA not getting extended? Vicjagger
I was wondering the same thing. The last I heard, from ESPN, the 'Skins were 4.9 M over the cap at about 12:30 today. Re-structures were due by 3pm. I didn't hear of any, only the cuts, which gained around 7 M or so? It seems there isn't much to shop with. What happened to the $19M figure? Enter Apotheosis
The $19mil figure comes from the players we cut as well as restructuring and the transformation of roster bonuses into guaranteed money. It's hard to tell exactly what our cap number is right now because we don't know what the FO did with everyone's contracts.
elkabong82
I'm sure all the cap-space saving tactics performed by the FO will be posted on the main site, Redskins.com, some time tomorrow.

The restructures that were used to get you under the cap were due by 3pm. With the released players along with 1 restructured deal and the savings from cutting Lavar got us under the cap. The one player who restructured has not been made public. We still have several roster bonuses that we are gonna give as signing bonuses which gives us even more cap space. All of the possible savings have not been done, just enough to get us started in the FA period tonight and tommorrow. The others will be done when needed and they may not do all of them. Jansen and Thomas could get extenstions but they first have to agree to them.
OVCChairman
I dont even know if the Redskins know how much they are under the cap yet. It's the first day of free agency and they probably have been crunching numbers like banchees. I hope they are a good number under the cap, so we can get that missing link to turn this team into a championship one.
Extreme
i'm guessing exact space is 6-7 inches? maybe 8. I honestly think the only ones who truly know as of this very moment, are Snyder and the coaches.
Peregrine
Best bet is, just assume we are 10 mill under. Its a safe and easy assumption and requires no one to restructure.
Commander Adama
Mods, it might be helpful to the board if you could sticky a Cap Space thread for updates. Thanks.
sknsrbck26
Last night Adam S. on NFL Total Access said that we were 7 mil OVER the cap...this being after we cut Lavar????? Are they telling the truth?
edgun88
NFL Network also reported that the most possible amount of room we can get in 19mil under. They said if everything went as planned we should be under by start of FA.
thr0xx
They said if everything went as planned we should be under by start of FA. i hope so......since you have to be under to be eligible for 06 season...
BadKarma
We better save up enough dough to get a veteran CB after losing Harris. Ty Law does not come cheap.

My guess would be that one restructure was just the guaranteeing of Portis' roster bonus creating about 2.4M of cap space. They were reported 7M over and then 4.5M over before the 5 players were cut. It would make sense to start with the youngest player and then guarantee bonuses as players are signed and space is needed leaving the guarantee of Springs roster bonus and the possible simple restructures of Jansen Thomas and perhaps even Brunell until the very end.
