NewCliche21
Our defense is amazing. #3 two years ago, a little down this year, but still top ten. In 2006, especially if we draft well and we can get a real LB, then we can be #1. Anyway, we always hear about the Steel Curtain or The Greatest Show on Turf, or the Hogs, or the Smurfs. Elite squads always get a title like that, so what about our defense/team now? I think we deserve something, but I can't think of anything aside from "The Second Coming". What do you guys think? thespaniard
I think to get a nickname like that you have to be the best Defense or Offense for a couple years. Not just top 5 or top 10...
wilbur58z
In 1991 when we won the Super Bowl it was called "Capitol Punishment." I always liked that....I still have a t-shirt that says that.

I don't know about that. The Rams weren't really that dominant for that long. And another thing, just because you're the best doesn't mean you're any good. Look at the NFC playoff situation a couple years back. 8 - 8 was one of the BEST records, so it earned a team or two a spot, but it doesn't mean that they were any good. I consider situations like that to be "The richest of the poor".

That's why they got a nickname. While the skins defense is good, right now it's not one of the best D's ever. That's the 'elite' level mentioned before that has to be reached before a nickname sticks..

Sure there were a couple nicknames, but those were all there before, and there was no title for the entire squad.

Taylor 36
How about: "The Redskins Defense"? The Eagles and the Cowboys can worry about names for their squads, and should have plenty of time to vote on it while we are playing in the post-season and they are at home, again. We just need to concentrate on being a team, that is all.

Sure there were a couple nicknames, but those were all there before, and there was no title for the entire squad. I believe you are thinking of the '83 skins offense: 2. Washington Redskins (1983) The '83 'Skins scored 541 points during the regular season, the second-highest total in NFL history, and, except for their 38-9 Super Bowl loss to the Raiders, never scored fewer than 23 points in a game. How'd they do it? Joe Theismann, John Riggins and the Hogs. Theismann completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,714 yards and 29 TDs. Riggins carried 375 times, bulldozing his way to 1,347 yards and 24 TDs. They had some help, too -- from Joe Washington, who rushed for 772 yards, an average of 5.3 per carry, and caught 47 passes; from wide receiver Charlie Brown, who caught 78 passes for 1,225 yards and eight TDs; from Art Monk, who played only 12 games but caught 47 passes; and from kicker Mark Moseley, who booted 161 points through the uprights. http://espn.go.com/page2/s/list/nfl/offenses/best.html
