Why does Patrick Ramsey want to go to the Jets where Starting Qb is not guarnteed?

i totally agree with this opinon. he can force himselve any where he wants, or be released. its in his ballpark.

How is this in his ballpark? Ramsey's cap hit for 2006 is now insignificant. If the Redskins feel that they aren't getting value for him they'll make him the 3rd QB and have him sit for the season (isn't that the outcome that half of the posters on this thread want if we can't get better than a 5th round pick?). PR is under contract it's not as if he can simply walk away - if he doesn't report to camp he'll be fined and begin to lose $$$. Don't get carried away with how much leverage he has.

thats my point.. he can choose where he wants to go and i believe can reject any trade?

With the news that PR might be traded it made me sit back and think about his time with the Skins. If you take all the emotion out of the whole PR experience beginning with Spurrier and ending with Gibbs. From his 1st action against the Titans to the benching againist the Bears. I think everyone would agree that this was not normally the way you bring along a young QB. I'm not saying he would have been successful, but I will say this. If I would have had a cystal ball when PR was drafted and it said this is how his career would go for the next 4 yrs - I would have said w/o a doubt he would have failed. Given the dysfunction he had to endure, it's amazing he was as successful as he was. Good Luck!

What could possibly make you think Ramsey wont report to camp if he stays with the skins? Have you been around the past couple years. If Ramsey doesnt get traded, Ramsey will be here at the same time as all the rest of the players, and you wont here anything out of him about it.

as so many have pointed out...nothing is ever guaranteed.. you have to produce to hold onto any job.

but at least there are some places where he won't get pulled after 1 quarter after winning the job. a fair chance to compete with a young coach.. that is all anyone can ask.

1 quarter is what you saw. - Joe Gibbs tried to give him the confidence of assuring him he was the starter the whole year leading up to the opener. That didn't work either. - He didn't get a 1 quarter audition - but he did confirm to Joe Gibbs that he he won't play the way Joe Gibbs wants him to. - In pre-season Ramsey threw twice as many INT's as TD's when defenses weren't even blitzing. - In his "1 quarter" he fumbled twice and threw a int.

This doesn't mean Ramsey is useless as a QB, it just means he doesn't play QB the way Gibbs prefers.

You have to look at this like a coach and take the emotion out of it. You have player A who doesn't do what you want him to, and Player B that does. As a coach, which player should you choose to start?

I've said the same thing, he can definately beat out frerotte in miami if they even bring him back, and I'd pick miami over detroit just off the strength of the team, miami is on the way up and who knows what's going on with the Jets. But if Ramsey going to NY lands us Abraham then do your thing Pat.

When you have Pennington, you need an experience backup and a fifth round draft pick is not much to pay. Maybe Ramsey knows what many of us know--he'll never be a starting quaterback and backup in New York City ain't so bad.

maybe he is going to NY to hook up with tim hasselback's wife!!!! she is gorageous.

Pennington's new contract restructuring sets-up a much better chance he could get released in a year or so. Also, Chad is coming back from yet another major injury and surgery, so his abilities right now are both questionable and suspect. Ramsey, and/or his agent, knows this, and also knows that his age and the fact he has a lot more throw power than Pennington greatly allow him the chance to overtake Pennington for the starting job.
