Shallow1
Barry Sanders broke more tackles than any running back I have ever seen, theres a diffrence between not engaging in contact on defense and making defensive players "miss".A defensive players agenda is to "STOP" the offensive player and offensive players objective is to "GET PASSED" the defensive player. Its obvious you have not played football enough to realize how great Barry Sanders was. Oh and by you account Timmy Smith was the greatest running back of all time? I guess the Hall Of Fame is wrong. You logic is way off..
endzone_dave
I can agree with the original poster somewhat. Typical runs for Barry were: 3 1 -2 3 80 2 3 -2 1 50... I'd rather have the RB that could bang out those 4 and 5 yarders every time to keep the drives going. Plus, if I remember correctly, once the Lions got within the 5 yard line, Barry would be yanked. He was best at making huge runs, without a doubt. I don't think that is the best for the team.
rincewind
If you think he was overrated - fine, there is an argument there. But to say he is the most overrated player in SPORTS history? Absurd. Haven't you ever heard of Scottie Pippen or William Perry?
RAC
Barry was always one of my favorite players, but I also agree that to some extent he was overrated. He did a lot of things to help the teams he played on, but he also did a lot of things to hurt them.

Like i posted before. Average per carry for Barry: 5 yards. Average for Emmitt: 4.2. Average for Sweetness 4.4.

Absurd.Haven't you ever heard of Scottie Pippen or William Perry? It's difficult to overrate Scottie Pippen. Six titles tend to speak for themselves. William Perry? I'm not aware of anyone who rates this guy as a great player. He's more of a folk hero or something.
gchwood
Wow, I didn't think he was this overrated!Career postseason: 6 games 91 carries 386 yards 1 Td In the big games, against the big teams, Sanders was invisible, Period! He only averaged 15 carries in each of those games! yet he had a 4.24 yards per carry average. He is one of the greatest ever. period.

Do you think that Pippen even would have come close without JOrdan? Pippen was in the right place at the right time, kind of like Luc "Luck" Longley

How many other players got a bunch of rings simply for being on the same team as Jordan? Alvin Harper has 3 rings - but was he a great wide receiver? CrypticVillain
Man this thread sucks. Forget the stats, the man was just a beast. He is the original "Human Joystick". I remeber when me and my pops used to watch a Lions game and go damn. The man moves was just too good to be true. I do not even care about his stats, what he can do on the field was just amazing spectacular. So if you are saying Barry is overrated do you think that Terrel Davis is better then him.
