TradeTheBeal!
I think so! He was a terrible blocker! He rendered his offensive line/Offensive coordinator impotent by refusing to hit the hole and run the play as called! Consequently, he routinely led the league in plays for negative yardage further hampering his teams ability to maintain drives. He had terrible hands and was never a factor out of the backfield. His freelancing style eventually led to him getting benched whenever his team was inside the 10-yard line or in short yardage. Possessed basically no leadership skills and quit on his team without any real explanation. Never won anything of note in college or the pros. Delivered his Hall of Fame acceptance speech with the same passion I exhibit when ordering a Quarter Pounder. IOW, the guy was a softie that can't hold a candle to the other hard-nosed, multi-dimensional RBs in the hall. Smith, Payton, Dickerson, Riggins, Simpson, Campbell, etc. all are superior. Hell, give me Earnest Byner and I'll build a better offense. Sanders? You can have him.
dg28daman
Dude, come on, that team had Scott Mitchell at QB and a suspect O-line. Barry is and was great.

Hooper
I couldn't disagree more. He was on pace to shatter every rushing record when he retired in his prime. And unlike Emmitt Smith, who had a dominant offensive line and a great passing game to help him out, Sanders was basically a one-man band.

Big Weirdo
I didn't even read what you wrote. I just saw the headline. Barry Sanders is one of the best of the best. You only wish he was running for your team back in the day.

TradeTheBeal!
Wow, I didn't think he was this overrated! Career postseason: 6 games 91 carries 386 yards 1 Td In the big games, against the big teams, Sanders was invisible, Period!
SUNSTONE
He wanted to be a Redskin, and they wouldn't let him, so he quit. I can't blame him really, I want to be a Redskin.
jwebst1
I think you are the only person in the world to think this... probably the most elusive back ever to play the game... he would have shattered the all-time rushing record if he didn't walk away from the game so early. PleaseBlitz
Did you ever actaully watch him play? He was retardedly good. He had NO help around him.
CaliforniaSkin
Ok, he put up all those yards with a lousy offensive line. He spent a large part of his career in the run and shoot. No TE or FB to block for him. Was in the top 5 in running in every year of his career. He led the league in rushing in 4 of his 10 seasons and was second in 3 others. Despite your contention that he couldn't catch was in the top ten in yards from scrimmage in every year of his career and top 5 9 of the ten years. Apparently the heisman trophy is nothing of note because he won that as a junior. Barry Sanders is probably behind only Jim Brown as the greatest RB of all time. Cdowwe
Top 5 RBs in history IMO. He did all that with sub par O Line and Mitchell at QB. Please.

DCsportsfan53
Dude, I don't know what you were watching but Barry was amazing. Not a good blocker, pleeeeeaaasse, give me a break. In my mind, you can put Jim Brown, Barry Sanders and Walter Payton as the top 3 ever, in no particular order. Edit: He left because the Lions organization stinks and he didn't think they were committed to doing what it took to win a championship. He didn't quit, we walked away proudly because they wouldn't trade him and he refused to waste his entire career without ever having a legit shot at a title.
