Will B. (Va Beach): With LaVar Arrington's release, wouldn't it be prudent for someone like the 49ers or Raiders to sign him and then draft AJ Hawk to solidify their LB corps? Gary Horton: That would obviously do it! I think you will see Arrington possibly receive a lot of interest in teams with a 3-4 defense where he can be more of an edge pass rusher and let his insticts take over. I agree that Hawk will be a really good player in the NFL. I suppose you could make a case for a team to pick him in the top 10 and also get Arrington. ************************************************** Shamron (Clifton, NJ): With an aging LB corps, do you see the Patriots gambling on the Gap-deficient Lavar Arrington? Gary Horton: That's a very interesting question. My first reaction would be that Belichick is such a character guy that you would say he woudln't bring in an underachiever like Arrington. However, Belichick is also a master motivator and he has a core of defensive players that can take a guy like Arrington and really put a lot of peer pressure on him to play up to his potential. Arrington could be great in the multiple Patriot defenses and could play in the nickel packages. He still has the ability to be an impact player. I guess my long answer is it makes more sense than you might think. **************************************************

SkinsTillIDie
I can see it now... A team like the Raiders makes a big splash for him, media predicts a significantly improved defense, Redskins bashed for letting such a big talent go free... "new and improved" defense underachieves, Arrington dissapoints, Coach Gibbs and co. again correct in their personel decisions, media refuses to acknowledge superb work by our front office. No, never. They were right on about how bad we were gonna suck last year without Smoot and Pierce, weren't they? And our defense the year before was horrible without Champ, right? Come on, the media's never wrong, are they?

I'm a LA fan, but this isn't a real well thought out response by Horton.
