fdarugar
Fred Darugar: (Vienna, VA): The Redskins are going to have to make some cuts if the CBA does not get extended and they will be strapped for cash. Any idea on which players they are targeting during free agency? SportsNation Rick Spielman: (4:11 PM ET ) They will never be strapped for cash as long as Synder is the owner. The are strapeed for cap space which is a big difference. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- What kind of bs answet is that? redskns21
I saw that as well and posted a question regarding the recent restructures going largely unreported and that they'll likely attribute our lack of cap issues to an extension to the CBA when it happens rather than the competence of our FO and the willingness of the players to do their part. True, and though I don't think that his answer was necessarily a slam, I didn't like the fact that he omitted the fact that we may have well got under the 94.5M cap without a complete roster purge. Stew
He's trashing the Skins because he didn't answer the question. I dont see that. He may not know what players are going to be cut so instead of speculating, he avoided the question. Id rather him generalize then go the Pastabelly route and just make up headlines.

No, it is not accurate. When have we ever been STRAPPED for cap space. We sign free agents every year right? STRAPPED implies that we never have any or will never have any again. This guy is a former GM and he should know better.
No_Pressure
Drawing attention to the thread title. Yeah this is it, THIS is it, this one single thing is what shows the media hates the skins. It wasnt when they decided to vote Monk out of the HOF for these past years, it wasnt when Pastabelly explained why he doesnt write any articles, or at least any positive ones about the skins, it wasnt when washington post writers like Sally Jenkins wrote all their doomsday articles mid season this year, even later when we were winning, it wasnt any of those, it wasnt when Peter King wrote a like 4 page long MMQB about how great the Saints and Giants MNF game would be and that the crappy Cowboys Redskins MNF game was the "redheaded stepchild of a MNF game" it wasnt when Santana Moss' 2 catches were not added to the top 5 reel of of MNF plays this year on the NFL network, it wasnt when Rod Woodson and Terrell Davis voted against the Skins in their win/lose picks every single game this season, it wasnt when Michael Irvin laughed for about 10 minutes on air at Terry Bradshaw at both the Dallas and NY games when Terry predicted a Redskin win, it wasnt when the only story in the entire postseason in the NFL was "hey look at those stupid redskins trading for crappy Santana Moss" and every single sports analyst I saw with the exception of Joe Theismann said it was one of the worst trades they have seen. It wasnt when we were called by Peter King "the worst 3-0 team in NFL history", it wasnt when Chris Carter said he was so sure the Redskins wouldnt make the playoffs he would dress up like a hog on air (which he never did) No, this is it
RIDETHEWALRUS
If you take that as an insult that proves the media hates us than you might have some issues. I personally take it as a bit of a compliment. It is entirely true that we will never be strapped for cash because we are one of the, or most, profitable franchise in the league. All our facilities are state-of-the-art, the team does a ton in the community, and though it is immposible to get season tickets, it is nice to know that FedEx will always be sold out (meaning no blackout dates). Edit: The-Rock has a very good argument about the media hating us.

fdarugar
New York, NY: Rick, Thanks for doing the chat. Just to clarify your earlier comments on the Redskins Cap. In actuality they are not strapped for Cap space, if you read the recent reports most of the veterans on the team had agreed to restructure contracts prior to the 10pm deadline yesterday, and the skins would have been significantly under the cap if the CBA were not extended. Contrary to most of the medias reporting the Skins had planned for the eventuality that the CBA would not be renewed and set their contracts for the past several years to give them maximum flexibility if something like "bloody Thursday" were to occur. It still baffles me as to why this goes unnoticed and I'm sure we will continue to hear of the redskins "Cap Hell" situation for several more years, even though it has been proven completely inaccurate Rick Spielman: (4:45 PM ET ) Until all the teams are cleared by the league for cap space and the restructued contracts are approved you can only speculate at what is known at this time
SnyderShrugged
I didnt see this quote as "proof of hatred", but I have to admit to frustration all day while listening to Sirius NFL radio today. I thought it was pretty much confirmed that the skins will not be anywhere near the forecasted cap trouble due to the restructures? So all day long I hear analyst after analyst insist that there will be 20 new rookies on the team if there is no CBA and that the skins are in deep trouble way above and beyond any of the other teams. Did something change after I went to bed last night?
