NavyDave
Doc Walker Says Lavar is in a bad position as things stand right now. Said 9ers Julian Peterson in same boat. Yeah the skins may have to purge but next year no one can out bid Danny. So this would be the year to play Campbell. Regardless the push should be for youth development this year. Its not doom and gloom just uncomfortable. Those under the cap should be cheesing since 2006 should be their year however Danny, Jerah, Bob Craft and the Texans will be a force in 2007. Expect an arms war. Even if the veterans are depleted you have to have a staff of great teachers which we have. The key is a healthy O line and D line as well as finding depth. NavyDave
For the Fans they may have to reinvest in Jerseys but fans are used to that. Doc says after the potential purge we are still competitive but we would have to avoid injuries becauseof the lack of experince but you never know if a young unknown can step in and surprise because he has faith in the coaches on the Team. Said Washington is untouchable among the Portises, Mosses, Taylors and Campbells on the team

frommd
From everything I've read, it seems like cutting Lavar will more against the cap than keeping him. Not offering an opinion of which to do. Just seems odd that we are going to have to scramble to get under the cap. Yet, we still make this move. Am I missing something?
NavyDave
Jets still in Talks for a renegotiation and may be a cap casualty. A little more than half a hour left then its 48 hours to get under the Cap

EnFoRcEr_uPu
You guys have to understand though, that this is all assuming that if their is no CBA this year, that there will never be a cap again. Now if we DO go and outbid teams for a lot of high-profile guys, then a new CBA is reached in say, 2010 or something, we'll be in MAJOR trouble again. ntotoro
Bram Weinstein is about to report from Redskins Park Not sure how to read that. He'd be doom & gloom two minutes after the 'Skins win a Superbowl.

Thats what I had initially thought....but ESPN radio reported this morning that the NFL will never be the same AGAIN. It said that the players will never revert back to having a salary cap. It would be worse than baseball was BEFORE their CBA. Get ready for the "New NFL".
RunPortisRun
Yes. I dont think Doc and John really thought about that. They just think Lavar= $12 million Lavar Only = 6mil if he is cut before June 1st. 6mil savings
NavyDave
Bram: I'd be surprised if most average players know what is going on, but hey thats what player reps are for Jason (WP Beatwriter) talking now Basically we are coming up on D Day but that isnt neccessarily the drop dead date. J Thompson: What effect would it have on us Jason: It would really effect free agency moves as well as resigning players, and would push not resigning or releasing players like Walt Harris, Hall Doc Walker added Thrash, Da Rock among others Coach Thompson how does this affect Lavar Jason If Lavar stays he is worth 12 million If he is cut its more than 12 million so he is here the question is the 6 million dollar bonus but for now Lavar isnt in the sights. Yes there will be 12 teams in 07 with money to spend but will they be willing to spend it along with the Snyders, and Jerrah Jones?
ntotoro
Lavar Only = 6mil if he is cut before June 1st. 6mil savings Plus the remainder of his signing bonus. No savings.
NavyDave
While a player like Julian peterson would be targeted by Minnesota, Greenbay, Cleveland among others the question will be what the 2006 contract will look like because of the looming 2007 cap free year. He doesnt think these team will set a tone for wild spending.

graffjd
There is no June 1 cap cut proration available under the current cba. The 6 million actually 6.5 million is a roster bonus due on June 1. It would theoretically count against the cap after June 1 but not now. I don't think that the Skins will give the 6.5 million roster bonus and that Lavar and the Skins will renegotiate his current contract and be a Redskin for life as Lavar has said he is willing to do. NavyDave
Jason said the players he talked to at the park are optimistic that a deal will get done but he isn't optimistic. Remember there isnt a strike next year. Bram is calling 07-08 a comparison of Baseball with Danny, jones, etc spending, and of course he is saying it would be a dark day.
