RiggoReincarnated
One thing I'm wondering, is if we can't get ourselves under the cap with Brunell, Jansen, Samuels, and Arrington not restructuring: If the NFL begins voiding Redskins contracts to get under the cap, I don't see us having anybody that we brought on in 2005 that would hurt that much other then Carlos Rogers and to a lesser extent Rabach and Patten. If they begin voiding 2004 contracts, and we get to Mark Brunell, I wonder if they void it completely without us taking a cap hit? If so that's nearly 5 million in cap relief right there. Does anybody know the answer to this question?
ChiefPowhatan17
Those releases would be a huge cap hit.
G-Prime
He's talking about if the NFL voided the contracts, no if they were released. Either way not sure what would happen.
RedskinStuckInBaltimore
Are you out of your mind? I am not sure if they start with the most recent contracts or not, but the following contracts are more recent then Brunell, Rogers, Campbell, Moss, Rabach, Portis, Taylor, Washington, Springs and others. If they do void most recent first which I don't think is the case, then we lose a lot of very good players long before we get to Brunell.
aussieskin
surely if the contracts are voided they would have to be paid out including bonuses where applicable, and then we would have to pay their replacements, so we would double the cap hit, and if the club refused to pay the contract out you can include lawyers fees as well. If the players want to play they will restructer, if not there is not much that can be done, somebody needs to restructure the whole pay system
WeownU
This might be stupid, as I am no cap expert, but lets say you guys are 20 million over the cap, and lets say there is no cap in 07. Couldn't you redo the contracts of almost everyone so that they get paid peanuts this year, but in 07 they have a guaranteed whopping payday? The team would be happy cause they get to keep their players, the players would be happy cause they get their money guaranteed next year, etc etc. Like I said, I'm no expert, but could that work? No, it could not. The rules limit how much a player's salary can increase from year to year when it extends into an uncapped year.

WeownU
Gotcha. That makes sense. Thanks
WeownU
Wait a second. Even if you could increase a players salary by 30%, if you rolled over enough players salaries to the next year, you would still be under the cap. I'm sure everyteam is working on something like that now if it would help them for
NavyDave
No worries If they refuse to restructure and have to be cut then so be it. We have lost with you and won despite you and we will continue on
