Wikipedia says he "acquired the nickname "Night Train" from a hit record by Buddy Morrow frequently played by his teammate, Tom Fears". Don't know what the song is about but the nickname sure sounds like someone who hits with bad intentions! Night Train Lane is my all-time favorite too.
