AbleDanger
There is a fourth Terminator movie on the horizon. There are rumors that James Cameron will be involved with this one, but I don't think there is anything solid as of yet. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0438488/ I'm curious how each Terminator movie ranks among favorites. Tarhog
You have to like the first one for originality, but it looks pretty dated now. Even the special effects, which were 'wow' material when it was released, look cheesy. The 2nd one is by far the best...the whole 'liquid metal' deal made for a lot of creative scenes, plus having Arnold as a friendly terminator was a nice touch. Only downside was the annoying kid they picked to lead. The 3rd one was just 'okay' in my book - nice chick playing the terminator was the highlight. The Terminator was very original but lacked good special effects. Terminator 2 was a big step up. Terminator 3 was alright. I thought the storyline of Terminator 3 lacked some explanation. The time machine was supposed to be busted in the future. How did they send two more Terminators? The best storyline they could have had for Terminator 3 was a "prequal" (sort of) showing what led up to Reese being sent back in time. I think they may run with that idea for Terminator 4, but I'm curious as to how since both Arnold and the guy who plays Reese are too old now. Maybe they can borrow some of George Lucas' special effects secrets to recreate the actors entirely of computer graphics.
Cdowwe
Agreed, the first for its orginality, but the 2nd was just amazing. If there is a 4th, I doubt Arnold would be in which would ruin the series.

jwpanic
1 was great, 2 was legendary, but rise of the machines was one of the most disappointing sequels ever. it ranks right up there with ghostbusters 2, meatballs 2, and batman forever. If there is a 4th, I doubt Arnold would be in which would ruin the series. Arnold is rumored to make a cameo. There were rumors of someone like The Rock playing a new Terminator model we had not yet seen. When you think about it, Arnold isn't entirely necessary in a Terminator movie that takes place after the nuclear war. Many of the Terminators could just be Endoskeletons without the skin. I admit it wouldn't be the same without Arnold, but who knows what they can do with computer graphics now. Some of the fight scenes between Ewan McGregor and Haden Christiansen in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith were entirely computer graphics without the real actors. I really didn't think Terminator 3 would get a single vote (just like Rocky V). :anon: http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144827
visionary
I think the first was better for originality as has been said already. Then the second was maybe the best of the three. But the third was I think the most entertaining. Just my opinion though.
SUNSTONE
Hands down the first one. Have you guys seen T2 in awhile? I have, I watched the first 2 recently, and the first one I watched 3 times in that same week. The only real good thing about T2 was the new metal terminator. That really had audiences going in their seats. But other than that, it was full of bad writting, and bad acting. Plus a lot of little things that didn't make sense, like a harley jumping off a 20' bridge, and then the tractor trailor doing the same thing. The metal terminator tells the kids mom "call out for your son", when he should have just killed her and down it himself. Arnold as a good guy is a bad idea when you try to turn a computer human. In the second movie, they cut the skin off of arnold to prove he is a terminator so that the scientist would kill the project, Why didn't they just show him the chip in his head? Now you have a T-1000 with a rotting arm, it's going to smell. The first movie was rated R, the second was PG-13. All kinds of people die in the first one, but hardly anyone dies in the second one, it had that Politcal Correctness feel that I can't stand. T1 was Camerons first movie, and what a doozy of a movie to start off with. T2 was pushed by Arnold who kept calling Cameron "How is that T2 script coming a long?", and it shows on screen as a semi rush job on the script. Arnold loved the Terminator story right from the beginning, and he even helped to produce it when Cameron started to run out of money. Special Effects go to T2, but the story, the acting, and the over all feel goes to T1.

Plus a lot of little things that didn't make sense, like a harley jumping off a 20' bridge, and then the tractor trailor doing the same thing. Please. It's a movie. I like the original Terminator too, but there were things that didn't make sense in that movie either. For example, their truck flipping over in a car chase and them not only surviving without seat belts, but getting up and running away a few moments later. They're both movies with fictional situations. The metal terminator tells the kids mom "call out for your son", when he should have just killed her and down it himself. He did do it himself. He mimiced her. They still would have to remove skin, and take apart his robotic brain, to show the chip in his head. The first movie was rated R, the second was PG-13.All kinds of people die in the first one, but hardly anyone dies in the second one, it had that Politcal Correctness feel that I can't stand. That's a fair point. I think they did very well considering it was only PG 13 though. T1 was Camerons first movie, and what a doozy of a movie to start off with. T2 was pushed by Arnold who kept calling Cameron "How is that T2 script coming a long?", and it shows on screen as a semi rush job on the script. Special Effects go to T2, but the story, the acting, and the over all feel goes to T1. I agree the acting was a little better in T1, but it's apples and oranges. T2's story was well thought-out and tied everything together nicely.
NoCalMike
I agree with Sunstone, the first one was easily the best. Part 2, historically will be known mostly for state of the art effects of the time, while Part 1 was Sci-Fi Horror at it's best. Part 1 also seemed a lot more like a thrill ride, Man vs. Machine type flick to me, where as in T2 there never seemed to be a doubt that the heros would win. Don't get me wrong, I liked T2, and when I was younger I would have ranked T2 as the best, but the test of time, and after re-watching all three, I definately think the first one was the best. We could guess the main characters would win in the original as well. But, even though we knew they would win in T2, you still had to wonder how they were going to beat a machine that had everything thrown at it, and it just kept taking shape again. It gave you a little bit of the same sense of hopelessness that the original gave you.

Well the director's cut of T2 also included various footage of the T-1000 showing damage to itself as the movie went on.

LApunkrocker72
I would have to go with T1, which I rate just a little higher than T2. I felt T1 had the better story while T2 had the incredible special effects. That being said, I thought both T1 and T2 were good movies. The average T3 had its moments, especially with Kristianna Loken as the female terminator.
Midnight Judges
Part one was the best IMO. The acting was better back then IMO and Arnold was scary. The ending is awesome, with the terminator crawling behind her, and she has a huge pane of glass in her leg. T2 was really good. The kid was cheesy but the Mom was convincing and Ahnold makes a good terminator. Acting like a robot comes naturally to him. I liked part three too. They destroyed some pretty expensive stuff and a lot of glass. The fight scenes were innovative when the two terminators were throwing each other through walls. The particle accelerator thing that the bad terminator stuck to at the end was pretty creative IMO.
