Great 'headphones' albums

I got a pair of noise cancellation headphones for x-mas, and i love them. What albums do you think sound better with headphones?

Personally, i've been loving Pink Floyd's 'Animals' - its amazing how much more you can pick up with the headphones, some of the background noise is simply outstanding.

Mars Volta - Frances the Mute

Nothing but headphones do it justice.

Agreed. And for anyone who hasn't checked out the first TMV album, you should.

Queens of the Stone Age's "Rated R" is excellent with headphones. Radiohead "Hail To The Thief", especially trippy songs like "Myxomatosis" and "The Gloaming". Production on Rush's "2112" is very conducive to headphone listening, also Oasis' "Be Here Now" layers about 50 different guitar parts in every song, so it's awesome to hear with phones. The first four Black Sabbath albums, especially "Master of Reality" and "Volume 4" are favs.

Jimi's "Axis: Bold as Love" and "Electric Ladyland" sound great with headphones. The way the sounds move back and forth, side to side, forwards, backwards...it's like 360 degree music.

beat me to it, both a must for headphones. Steve miller "Fly like an eagle", and a lesser known lp/cd "Italian X-rays" is an amazing recording sonically, the sound quality on the LP rivals the dynamic range of a cd.

This is a cool thread...I never really thought to differentiate. I guess that's because I listen to all my music with headphones on. (My neighborhood is loud at home, and at work its polite :)).

I'll have to check out The Mars Volta...never heard their stuff. :)

Mars Volta is AMAZING. Frances the Mute is good but De-Loused in the Comatorium will kick your ass.

I feel obliged to express the opposite opinion on the Mars Volta. Feel free to disagree, tear me apart, ignore me, or whatever. That said, listening to to the Mars Volta is like watching someone masterbate, and them expecting you to be impressed.

Here is the review of Frances the Mute that I come closest to agreeing with. Although, I don't like open letters as reviews. The writing really isn't that great, but I've read worse writing in more legitimate publications.

Just my favs for headphones:

Bruce Springsteen- Nebraska- almost haunting w/ headphones

The Who- Quadrophenia- full effect of The Who

AC/DC- Highway to Hell- AC/DC needs to be as loud as humanly possible, and neighbors tend to notice when you play this album as loudly as it needs to be played... lol

Hahahahah, I am listening to Beating around the Bush right now. I have every single AC/DC album, and I love them. I agree they need to be played absolutely as loud as possible, which probably would make them the worst band to listen to with headphones on...Because bleeding from the ears is not fun.:silly:

"Child Of The Novelty" is great, my Dad got me into MR not too long ago.

Along the same lines, I just wanted to add Rush's "Permanent Waves" to this list... especially the closer, "Natural Science".
