any nascar fans on this board must now switch there favorite driver (kidding obviously) but they just did an interview with denny hamlin (one of joe gibbs new rookies) and he started the interview wearing a hogs nose and he said he is a huge redskins fan. He said that he sat in line for three hours when he was a child waiting for joe gibbs autograph. I was a leffler fan last year simply because he was gibbs young rookie but that didnt work out so i figured i would root for the new driver in the 11 car, but this absolutely seals the deal GO HAMLIN.

I think it's because he's the new bad boy of Nascar. There was the Intimidator.... and Ernie Irvin to a lesser extent. Nascar needs the anti-nice guy. In a sport dominated by smarmy metrosexual drivers like Gordon, J. Johnson, B. VIckers, K. Kahne, K. Busch, Kyle Busch, McMurray, Newman, and countless others...... Stewart is the slightly overweight regular guy that simply wields a better race car and has superior racing skills than the rest of pretty boys. If you're going to beat him... you're going to have to REALLY beat him.

I like Tony... I think he's the closest thing to having Dale Earnhardt driving ability on the circuit.

I chose to root for Hamlin when Labonte bolted for Petty. He's proved me right.... good kid who can wheel a race car and will win in Nextel Cup. He'll make his rookie mistakes.... like today.... but he's not afraid to put the car where he has to in order to get to the front.

Excellent obeservations, especially the metrosexual drivers comment.

I don't see Tony as the "Bad Boy" He was a couple years ago, but he really has mellowed. He had some issues at Daytona, but that's restrictor plate racing for you. Tempers flare there, and Talladega. If it wasn't Tony causing the stink it would have been someone else.

Last year Kurt Busch (one of the pretty boys) was the "Bad Boy". The way NASCAR is now, it's kinda hard to consistently have the "bad boy" mentality, especially with the policing NASCAR plans on doing.

There is no driver in the same league as "The Intimidator". Jr is definitely close, as is Stewart, but not quite at the lvl the original. Again, this is going to be because of the new rules of NASCAR.

As for Hamlin, he's going to be awesome. He's actually a good friend of Jr's (who is also a 'Skins fan), so I can almost see a little inter-team "team" starting. Stewart, Jr., Hamlin, and possibly Truex Jr. I'd say watch for these 4 running together especially at the restrictor plate tracks.

Thought I'd just include the article in this thread instead of making a new thread.

It's no wonder why the Busch boys have a bad rep.

NASCAR's Kyle Busch pulled over for reckless driving

Associated Press

Posted: 6 hours ago

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was ticketed for reckless driving in a Richmond suburb Wednesday night.

The misdemeanor charge carries up to a year in jail, a $2,500 fine and a driver's license suspension, said Sgt. Don Lambert, with Henrico County police. The charge also calls for a mandatory court appearance; Busch will appear in Henrico County General District Court on May 23.

Lambert said the incident happened at 10 p.m. near Richmond International Airport, a few minutes outside the city.

Neither speed nor alcohol was a factor, though Lambert would not provide further details.

The unofficial teammates. I'm the same way, those two are my favorites, but I'll also root for Truex Jr. and the other Gibbs drivers.

 yeah same here. It's kinda funny how Jr., and Stewart are. watching them when they run together and race each other is fun, because they start joking with each other through their spotters, and just nudge each other.

Used to watch every race

Now I only watch Daytona and Talladega. Nascar is not what i was when I got hooked in the early 80's it has become to PC.

Nascar has forgot its roots, when you fine someone for saying sh*t in an interview then you have crossed the line in my book

Dale Earhhardt's last race at Daytona he put his hand out the window at 200 mph and flipped someone the bird. If that was today they would fine him 25,000 and take away points

I agree with you on the above quote. I was a bigtime BigE fan. I collected all his diecasts the whole deal. When he died, to me Nascar has never been the same. Its like the link to its past is gone. Somehow it just does not feel the same. I used to go to a race or 2 a year, haven't been to one since.

I have been starting to waych more F1 racing. I used to watch that all the time, Ayrton Senna was hands down the most amazing driver I have ever seen. The only one I would say that was better than BigE. BigE was also a big fan of Senna's. So now I'm watching Shumacher, Alonso, and Riakenen(sp?).

I watched some F1, and Indy, it's definitely interesting to watch. The off-road stuff Robbie Gordon does is cool too. So what do you think of Jr's color scheme for Talledega? It's in honor of his father. Big E is the winningest ( I love that word...is it a word?), and Jr is second there. This is sparking the old debate if Harvick leaves RCR, will Little E take his spot, and take the #3.

You think Nascar is getting weak now, wait till the Car of Tomorrow is used. ugh.

I like Jr running the paint scheme. I don't think Jr will leave his team until he wins a championship, or its abundantly clear they don't have the peices in place to do it and don't let him have input about the peices.

To me its not the cars, its the political correctness of it all now. Guys can't be themselves. Jr getting fined and a points penatly for saying **** is so far removed from what made Nascar what it is now that its hard to fathom. Guys are taking there aggresion out on the track at speed because its the only place they can. No scuffles in the garage anymore, bad for the image.
